QUOTE (Turin Machine @ Nov 2 2017, 07:42 PM) And I was right, he did, even sensible discourse isn't to his taste, find it a bit sad really that some people appear to be so far up their own fundaments that even the sky looks brown to them. Oh well, tried to be civil. I tried being sensible with newres. I just gave up in the end. He can't cope with people that think differently.

QUOTE (Turin Machine @ Nov 2 2017, 07:14 PM) The whole point of the poppy is in my opinion and I know others think differently is that it's tied intimately to Remembrance day. To remember the nations dead, who (in general) went to fight in defense of our country. So that we could enjoy the freedoms enjoyed by you and I, Iraq and Afghanistan were to some extent politically inspired conflicts which we were never going to win. That said, people still died, they didn't choose to go, they were sent. As a soldier to don't get to pick and choose were you go or who you fight, that's always a political decision and to try to twist that to gain some pitiful little political advantage is in my view incredibly distasteful.
No doubt you will disagree and come back with some clever little comeback but that's up to you really. The problem starts when wearing one becomes a social obligation which is fine if it were a symbol of respect for soldiers who were volunteers and conscripted to defend against impending tyranny, but less agreeable when its to pay tribute to people who signed up willingly in the knowledge they may be shot at or bombed one day, made worse when it was to prosecute a war on a very questionable legal basis. I will still pay tribute to those that did and still support the poppy, but I am beginning to question whether I should continue to do so. Vietnam’s conclusion was hastened I feel due to public resentment and there was a draft for that.

You think like everyone else on here that's fed a diet of Mail/Express nonsense without the intelligence to question what you're fed. Others have left this forum because of people like you. Have you not noticed that generally there's no debate here anymore? Unless I pop by? It's because everyone else is fed up fed up with your right wing / Britain First agenda.

I guess that makes you an ISIS sympathiser who wants all white people ethnically cleansed. Fool..

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Nov 2 2017, 10:59 PM) I’m surprised you all let each other get under each other’s skin so readily. I treat it with the contempt it deserves. I couldn’t care less about being called a libtard or whatever. In fact I welcome it; it proves to me that my indirect baiting with my peace taking is working. All this left wing libtard stuff is laughably pathetic. As is the Britain First nonsene. I may disagree with you on policy but at least you argue the point. Newres won't accomodate anyone elses views. That's why the forum has descensed into farce. Cant imagine what it must be like for his poor employees!

It's because everyone else is fed up fed up with your right wing / Britain First agenda. "everyone else on here" "without the intelligence" Please elaborate. Actually when you "pop by" the debate often lessens and regularly resorts to insult. When someone posts something that you disagree with try and counteract with debate to make your point as to why you disagree. (Hang on............am I going back to basics here, like the BBC this morning telling us to "wrap up warm" if we are going to a firework display?)

Once more a cross section of adults from West Berkshire revert to type . One assumes that most read Golding's novel at an informative age and it has left an indelible impression on their subconscious . Little wonder so few now contribute to this forum , as they probably feel intimidated by the content . Stick to the subject chaps and leave the playground stuff to the little ones .
