Any public event of this size needs maximum security, anything else would be putting the publics lives at risk.

Surely maximum security would be gained from not holding the games at all, or preventing anyone who is not fully vetted from getting with a mile of the venues.

You cannot have maximum security and public access - all you can do is the best you can think of. Which will cost an enormous sum (plenty of security experts are cashing in at present) to be spent on stuff that will never be used/needed.

I think Newbelly's suggestion is good, building a world sports arena,

This is done every 4 years. The Greeks themselves did it in 2004.

Go back to the origins. Skip the whole nonsense.
Watching the daft opening fire lighting ceremony I thought....

Just have a few naked girls around, a few naked javelin throwers,
a chap with a discus and no pants. Runners with no pants and wobbly bits.

Back to basics on a Greek Island. Thats what most holidaymakers do anyway!

I drove through London yesterday and it will be hard to get the ZIL lane working in time.

Besides the millions it's costing taxpayers, and even more for London ones via increased Council taxes, what a waste this is of 70 members of Police for several weeks no doubt.

Who'd want to nick the flame anyway!

The Metropolitan Police Service will be providing a Torch Security Team (TST) for the Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relays. The MPS is performing this role as in previous Games it has traditionally been the responsibility of the host city police force, and it is written to the host city contract.
The TST will work with the local police force in every area the Torch travels through. The TST will travel with the Olympic Flame from the moment it is handed over to LOCOG in Athens until it arrives at the Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony.
The same team will then travel with the Paralympic Flame. The team is made up of approximately 70 staff and officers, which includes 35 'runners'

And of course local police force numbers will increase numbers of law officials not
doing the job we pay them for.
There is so much money in Olympics these days, that organisation should bear cost, not host country.

What recession??
