Do you think HS2 is going to fix that!

In the case of HS2 only on the North /South corridor.
Other routes will need further investment of some sort or other otherwise the crowding etc. problems will continue.
It's like all the other services in the UK, NHS, energy, roads etc.
Unless the population growth is stemmed, which is unlikely, then further investment will be needed or they will crumble.

I completely agree, but those things would be there without the family living in them.

Yes they would but, be honest, they wouldn't have quite the same attraction to tourism would they?

Surely we can now see HS2 should be stopped, we have far more important things deserving investment.

Fair enough comment OTE, but if so I don't want to hear any more how Japan, France et al have superior rail systems to us and no more complaining about overcrowded trains because the current network is bursting at the seams and without new lines will not cope in the future.
(actually, as many of you point out, it's not coping now!)
All to do with our ever increasing population!! rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

One would have thought the minimum height of any cable would be the first measurement to be checked.

What on earth do you mean Sir W?

The people responsible for providing us with a rail ‘service’, or not as the case may be.

So Network Rail, Hitachi, Agility Trains, DFT, GWR and all the sub contactors associated with the electrification project?
Here's a list of most of them.

They're not generally very accessible so I don't think you can! You might get as glimpse if there is a big royal event but it's not like you can pop over and have tea with them!

i was counteracting the statement that "Foreign tourists don't come here to see the Royal family anymore than we go to Sweden to see theirs."
Also they may not come to see the family per-see, but to see all that is associated with the.
Buckingham Place, Windsor Castle, Queen's Guard etc.

Still going on this morning. Electrification just brings another excuse.

Not exactly an excuse is it?
Anyway you have made clear your anti rail feelings and that neither you nor your family use the railway so why comment?

I care what others believe when it has an impact on society. Religous people are nuts and it's getting worse, people are literally killing thousands of other people for not believing in their chosen faith. We have regular terrorists attacks. We have genital mutilation, we have mass paedophilia and we have world leaders making huge decisions based on faith. It's b0llocks and childish and we all have to pander to these idiots and try not offend them.

Absolutely Strafin.
Well said (especially the "bollocks" bit! wink.gif ).

The whole point being that we respect that position and treat the animal with compassion before being harvested which should be quick and painless.
The last two requirements are not present in jewish and muslim abattoirs and this has absolutely nothing to do with racial prejudice.

That's probably because it is done in the name of deluded religious fanaticism, nothing to do with race.

Has this quote from Gandhi been posted here before?
Can't remember.
Anyway, here's a reminder...........
"The greatness of a nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way it's animals are treated."

One thing that really annoys me is when a train is rammed full and some eejits think its OK to take a seat up with a laptop bag or other luggage. Downright rude.

One on the train today - people standing and they are completely oblivious. I gues i could ask if they bought 2 tickets?😂

If was standing in a crowded train and there were people with items on a vacant seat I would ask them to move it and if they refused would move it myself!!

For those of you who complain about delays etc. and especially those who incur and prevaricate about delays at Thatcham Crossing, there is an open day on October 10th at Colthrop Crossing Signal Box with guided tours.
It may help some of you understand the reason for some delays and why the crossing needs to be down for so long sometimes.
Unfortunately it is on a working day so some may not be able to make it.
May sound a bit boring but I can assure you it is more interesting than it sounds!
P.S. For those who may not know Colthrop Signal Box controls Thatcham Level Crossing, (and Midgham!).

An earlier post says the seats were specified by the Transport Department. What you've found shows that they aren't fit for purpose and the Train Companies should have at least been campaigning to get them changed.

How do you know they're not?
P.S. Much of the coverings and construction of modern train seats are specified by our friends the EU due to the latest fire and safety regulations set by them!

Glad you might have a fix. It's concerning about the seats; the trains and the upgrades have cost a huge amount and if they can't get the basics right, the money is wasted. Looks as if the railway people don't think customer.

The new trains were specified and procured by the government (DFT).
