Have travellers found a 'new Stroud Green'? Options

While some might be pleased that Stroud Green has been 'fenced off', it seems travellers have found themselves a new place to rest in Greenham. However, in this instance, it is on private ground. I suppose until they are found an official and permanent place to rest, this is going to keep happening.

Greenham Parish Council are yet to comment.

Apparently despite there usually being a rise in crime/thefts when the Travellers come to town our local Politico with Policing experience thinks connecting the two as racist. Preferring to say that a race doesn't commit crime.

I'm wondering why the laughing face? I don't find that article the least bit funny. These people are not just antisocial - they are asocial. As for the 'race' thing, they don't appear to behave like humans. I am not sure how you would classify them.

I agree, the article is not in the least funny.

The laughing face is a touch of sarcasm because of the statement by MP about one / some of our politico's / forum member's views that these people this "race" do not commit crime etc.

I am not sure how you would classify them.

Well in this latest incident, they have either gained permission from the land owner, or have 'broken in'. Mind you, the people who tend to the land have in the past not maintained the fences well.

You have managed to have a discussion and come to a conclusion about I would or would not say without me saying a word.

As for the rise in crime, research shows that previously unreported crimes are reported when travellers arrive, so actual crime does not necessarily rise. Now why on earth would people report crimes when travellers arrive that generally they would not bother about?

As for calling anyone racist, I actually generally do not unless they explicitly choose to brandish an entire ethnic group (which Gypsy/Roma and Irish Travellers happen to be) are brandished in some ridiculous negative stereotype. As for saying that such travellers are not even human as one contributor has, this merely reminds me of history, and when one group dehumanises another then they can do as they wish to them.

There are good and bad in all commnities, but recidivism has no ethnic basis.

I made a statement based on previous posts. When a travellers pitch was discussed.

I am surprised that some crimes are only reported when travellers are around. It would interesting to see some evidence on this. Maybe everyone goes out and fly tips their litter but wait until the travellers turn up so they get the blame.

Yes unfortunately they were granted such status some years ago, and we know that any minority group
will play on this, to stretch police tolerance to the limits.

At least there is some legislation in place now requiring them to move on if there are a minimum number
of vehicles; strange how these often seem to be new and of expensive 4x4 variety

I recall some years ago when they dumped themselves at Chieveley M/W area; when they were
eventually moved on, the amount of debris/human excrement left for others to clear up was
appalling, as I saw.
However, this seems to be their standard operating procedure

Interestingly the Irish Republic are much tougher in their handling of this group, though
clearly UK has high % of them here, as pickings are presumably £better£
