There's 'free' Wi Fi all over the place.

If you don't mind carting your laptop or tablet to the nearest Starbucks or wherever to watch the TV programme you missed smile.gif

Or Freesat - who needs a subscription?

Me sad.gif

Sitting here watching England's cricketers struggling again.

I'd say that over half the TV I watch is not available without a subscription.

Yes, for watching at home. But there is a proliferation of free Wi-Fi.
Alternatively if you have a 3 mobile you get unlimited 3g data and it is good enough to stream TV shows at a very watchable quality.

Right, so you are telling me that it is more conveinent to watch a netflix / love film movie on a iPhone cos that means you can save money on a landline & broadband, but have the benefit of being able to not run out of milk......

I think I'll stick to my way of doing it thanks.

Cheers.

I just said I didn't have a mobile. MM decided to give me a lecture on why that was a bad thing for me.

Now, back to the toy trains on BBC4

Tried to get that reinstated. A bloke came round about 18 months ago, from Dairycrest I think, touting for business. Signed up, never got any milk. I'm guessing no-one else around here signed up too, making it unprofitable for them to deliver to us.

We used to get pints of milk in bottles that were reused umpteen times......where you'd get a bit of cream on the top. No longer thanks to 'Progress'.

Yes, rather like undoing local breweries so we can tanker millions of gallons of water round the country everyday.

Not really a lecture you mad toy train man.
I was simply trying to understand why someone would like to make their life harder for themselves.

I don't view anything as cost. I'm saying, yes in this day and age, you do not need a phone line, a mobile is better. You can get Broadband from Sky or many other companies without a physical phoneline needed.
I earn enough to mean I can afford the £30 for a phone contract (along with all the other expenses I have which are frankly far more) and it's definitely worth it for the fact that I am able to be contactable by friends, have emergency contact capabilities should I need it, have a camera and video recorder with me at all times should I need to film some chavs humping in a car park, if I need to check the stock of something in Argos online I can do it in NorthBrook street without having to drive to the Retail Park, and it also doubles as the player for my in-car-ch00ns.

If I was hard up I would buy a cheap handset for £30 and a rolling contact that for £10 top up gives me 500 texts and 200 minutes. More than enough time to get hold of the AA or maybe the wife when she is rushed to hospital and you don't find out until 5 hours later when you're back from Toys'R'Us.

Personally speaking I can not be without my mobile phone. Not that i am constantly on it, because I am not. But as and when necessary it's nice to have the CHOICE.
Then again if you are out you are out.

FYI you can tether your iPhone to your PC or laptop, and use it as your internet connection. Which is what I do when I am at client sites when there is no network access available.

It's a lot more than milk, it's your life!!!! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

On that Subject, I think MilkAndMore do our milk deliveries at work, every morning we have 6 or 8 pints of milk in those glass bottles. Give them a shot. I hear they also do Hovis.

Is that true, I'm with BT so I'm not sure, but apart from Virgin if you are where their cable is routed, don't you have to have a BT landline as part of the package even if you are paying somone else for the line rental.

Waitrose do what they call 'Traditional Milk' which still has the cream on top. (i.e. not homogenised). And lovely it is too.

Used to be true, not anymore, as companies cottoned onto the fact some people now are doing away with home phones. They may be a phoneline there in effect but it will not take ISDN calls.

Can you refer me to a wired broadband package which does not involve the rental of a landline please?.
