Going by the use of the word "our", you work for WBC, right?

I must be imagining the ones in Bartholomew St as they are not listed.

And what bright spark planned the work by the cinema on Saturday with lights when the queue from Bartholomew St easily reaches that far back?

Thanks for your feedback. These are up and coming roadworks not current ones, however if you think it would be useful to see roadworks currently in progress I'll look at creating a page that shows this data.

I have found that in some areas of Newbury our roads are disgusting.

Do try to be more specific Heather... Disgusting??! D'ya mean they're covered in filth? In need of a good scrub down? Or do you mean the equally non-specific "our roads are shocking"?

As a counter argument I've found that in some areas of Newbury the roads are excellent

Anyway, I think a lot of us better be bracing ourselves for worsening conditions in every walk of public service support soon... and we're not just talking roads with a few minor potholes. The money supply from Central Govt is going to be turned quite tightly in the next few months and it's going to hurt...

BTW, I have found that in some areas of Britiain the roads are disgusting.

Phil - Current roadworks would be great too, if only to see when they are scheduled to finish.

OK, road surfaces wear out, but when the problems are caused by utility companies (privatised, making very healthy profits) then the provisions of New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 need to be enforced and prosecuted where needed.

I cannot find any law on delivery lorries on pavements. These massive vehicles bump up the kerbs, crack the slabs and the pavement starts to subside. The tax payer then pays for repairs.

Surely the rules for cars would be the same for lorries, whether delivery or not.

Yes, you're right it's not showing what it should.

We get this data from Elgin, so I've emailed them to see if they've lost their marbles. wink.gif

No worries Phil. I used to work as a radio presenter full time, and the info you get sent is probably the same. Some of it is out of date, and some of it just doesn't actually exist!!! Good to see that West Berks are getting involved in social media, I think that is fast becoming one of the most important tools for reaching those who have no interest in reading the local paper or a forum like this. Great idea in principle, and when the bugs are fixed I'm sure it will become a very usefull tool.

Thanks Richard. I don't think there's another council in the country that offers the range of information we do on our Facebook and Twitter pages, I've included the full list below.

Some councils have appointed Social Media Officers at a cost to residents however thanks to way we've set them up it doesn't take officers any extra time to add content to our social media pages, it's all automatic when it's added to our website.

Content on our Facebook page
car park closures
care home information
council vacancies
event information
flood alerts
leisure centre info
library closures
roadwork information
rubbish collection and information about the tip
schools closures
general, leisure and libraries news from the council

I saw that some local authorities have invested a lot into social networking, but I really can't see why they can't have done it like the communications team at West Berks have set it up. Good job!!!

If you or anyone else has any queries about our Website I'll be happy to try and answer them in this thread. I've set my account on here up to email me when someone replies so I don't have to keep checking it.

Being a programmer in IT with responsibility for website development I can only reply to topics on this subject so please don't ask about anything else, I'm not qualified to give an answer so won't.

Well one suggestion I would make is can we have a window on the website home page that shows any current consultations that are taking place on the website? Or maybe have it as a "happening now" window?
