Given how many of those new LED street lights have already failed along the A4 in Speen, I don't think that there will be that many lights left to turn off!

Get real chaps - we don't need jobs in Newbury, apart from retail. We are building thousands of houses and no offices or industrial units - the conversion to dormitory Newbury is well underway.

Yep, 'Newbury; for a good night'. Quite catchy really! Let's go for it, think of all that energy we'll save because we won't need street lights past 10pm ish. The only thing the planners have forgotten is that pavements will need to be much wider from now onwards.

The LED's are a lot nicer than the old sodium lights.

They are only going to Reading, can't your friends work there?

I can see HeatherW's point. Yes, of course her friends can travel in. There will actually be pretty good transport links to Reading from Newbury Station and it looks as if a new Station is going to be built at Green Park, although meaning a change of train.

However, right now Bayer have a decent car park. Doubtless even Reading Council will impose the 'green' parking restrictions at the new office. So if the employees concerned live in the Newbury suburbs, they'll need to be able to park by the station at least. The costs of that plus the train fare becomes in effect a salary reduction.

Anyway, the official answer will doubtless be move to Reading or, if they really do have a Newbury hang up, move to the town centre. I think WBCs demonstrable lack of effort in trying to keep Bayer in the town speaks volumes. There is clearly a firm agenda to make Newbury simply a retirement / dormitory suburb. Who is next out?
