I can see HeatherW's point. Yes, of course her friends can travel in. There will actually be pretty good transport links to Reading from Newbury Station and it looks as if a new Station is going to be built at Green Park, although meaning a change of train.
However, right now Bayer have a decent car park. Doubtless even Reading Council will impose the 'green' parking restrictions at the new office. So if the employees concerned live in the Newbury suburbs, they'll need to be able to park by the station at least. The costs of that plus the train fare becomes in effect a salary reduction.
Anyway, the official answer will doubtless be move to Reading or, if they really do have a Newbury hang up, move to the town centre. I think WBCs demonstrable lack of effort in trying to keep Bayer in the town speaks volumes. There is clearly a firm agenda to make Newbury simply a retirement / dormitory suburb. Who is next out?
