I enjoyed an evening at The Almeida in Islington last night.
I have not laughed so much for years.

I mention this as the production was sponsored by The Corn Exchange, Newbury.
So I don't always ramble without a nod to Newbury..
What was possibly the most interesting bit, was that my guest read the blurb of the history.
3 chaps set up the project. Mass -Observation in the late 1930s.
The chap sitting next leaned over and said "That was my Dad". A Surrealist poet as well

I always thought poets a bit surreal!

I think the archive still exists and is run by one of the Universities. There is some great stuff and bits do get published now and again. Saw a recent TV thing based on the MO diary of a woman living in Barrow during the war. That stuff makes history come alive. Good observation about poets - they can get away with all sorts; John Betch. a good example; everyone thought he was just a doiddery nice old boy! (That last bit is my Newbury link!)

On the Edge that is interesting. About a poet in the wilderness. For a long time.
We all know about Slough. His home or publisher's office occupied a tiny alley by an ancient church in Smithfield.
A hint about a Newbury link , if possible.

the unit is www.massobs.org.uk
Sussex Uni.

Thanks for the link - facinating! I had in my mind to find out what happened one day and you've prompted me to look!
