Went in the new Wetherspoon's with my daughter today. Not only was it packed but the prices were brilliant. I paid less than anywhere else in Newbury and got a lot more for it. I highly recommend it. Full marks.

On Sunday they do a roast with a drink added in. I am taking again on Saturday.

Yes, it's called The Diamond Tap, which is a more accurate description than your topic title. rolleyes.gif

My opinion based only on friends and family is this:

Friends - Drinks are cheap, fab atmosphere, £2 to pay on the door (they probably went in after 10pm)
Family - They went Sunday for roast dinner and it was all frozen/microwaved food - disgusting. Not one bit was cooked from fresh.

I look forward to trying it out and deciding for myself, all though I already know I wont be eating the sunday roast as i'm very snobby when it comes to food.

Finally got round to it myself. About half 7 on weekday evening, lots of people eating, good atmosphere and well-priced drinks.

Suitably impressed although I will reserve judgement on the food 'til I've tried it myself!

One negative. Although it had been very well refurbished, I couldn't help but feel that it looked almost exactly like the 'George & Pelican'.

But with customers...!

Does it make any difference? it is still Wetherspoons (it has that name along side Diamond Tap). I am sure people are intelligent enough to work it out; you did. wink.gif

I thought the food was fine. And I agree about pleasant atmosphere. And the staff were very friendly and chatty.

What is the service like to get a pint? The GnP and The Lock, Stock and Barrel, for example, can be quite slow.

That was pretty quick (however, I must admit i sent my daughter up to order).... however, the food wasn't so fast in coming, but that isn't really surprising with the amount of people they had in. Besides; you can't have everything perfect. I and a lot where happy with what confronted us.

Went this evening with another argumentative member of this forum. Most impressed! Prices, service and food all very good. Nothing at all to complain about! In fact, I actually lashed up our order - which they put right, at no extra cost. Must admit, have hardly ever used the pubs in Newbury of an evening, but this place will change that. My previous experience of this chain is the Solihull branch - where they do an amazing breakfast for less than a fiver. Looks as if the same offer is also in Newbury.

I'm surprised you found the time squire, you appear to spend most of your stab at life on here...

Very little and most of that when I'm supposed to be working. But I'm my own boss and that's the private sector for you!
