The very same "Peta Stoddart-Crompton" that would not discuss the penalty charges for Parkway Bridge and fines ???

WBC should employ people who are 100% transparent if they are to gain credibility, Peta is not one of those so shame on WBC FOR frontlining such staff.

If the Press Officer is given no authority to speak there can be no comment made, so I doubt it is her 'fault'.

It would seem that public relations has been a problem at West Berkshire Council for some time. Quite often they come across as arrogant and disrespectful, but user23 is right that it has always been an authorities' policy not to comment about individuals in cases. I suspect it is a legal thing.

Might not always be a legal thing, it could be out of respect for the privacy of individuals.

Perhaps your perception of them be arrogant and disrespectful is down to the way things are reported. Have you got any examples of what made you feel this way?

Actually, the subject had given implied permission for the Council to comment by making her claim public. She can hardly expect the Council to do otherwise than respond. A not unfamiliar tactic, making an argument public if you disagree with the decision. Frankly, a failure to respond suggests it's the Council with something to hide! Nothing wrong with saying our policy is x and the processes were followed correctly so we have nothing to add.

Must admit, makes one wonder what these 'spokespeople' actually do for a day job? Without being rude, simply trotting out these non statements could be automated. What's happened to the 'voice of Newbury', Mr U. at least his comments are a good laugh.

IF it is true that there have only been three challenges, and two failed it does seem to support the councils insistence that the layout and signs are correct. I would love to know what the successful appeal was based on.

Perhaps it is about how things are reported, but I would imagine a press officer worth their salt would sort that out. I feel Council officers and councillors frequently drop faux pas.

Who was that Tory that called his constituents idiots for driving over Parkway bridge, for instance? He's brilliant that one; he's the one that couldn't comment about the successful Parkway bridge appeal because it was unprintable!
