Someone said this was being considered but I didn't think it would happen...
Hidden away on page 50 of the NWN (public notices) it details a proposal to ban Heavy Commercial Vehicles from using Mill Lane. So that's any vehicle over 7.5 tonnes..... (pretty much any LGV/HGV)

LOTS of businesses use this road for deliveries.... Their customers also use it to pick up goods....

This one way road is the only entrance for vehicles arriving from the west into a pretty substantial industrial estate. Any business on Bone Lane, or Hambridge Road or even down the far end of Hambridge Lane will have to get their deliveries by using the A339, Robin Hood roundabout, A4 and then into the industrial estate via the other end of Hambridge Road if this gets accepted. Pretty much four sides of a square if you're a business at the western end of Bone Lane.......

The Council's website says it's been requested for environmental reasons....... It's hardly 'Cleaner Greener and Environmentally Friendly' to be making every single lorry journey add an extra 3-4 miles to their journey just to appease a small number of residents who have petitioned for a closure is it?

More traffic on the A339...

Hopefully some of the businesses down that way will realise the potential implications of this on their business and object? I have a couple of mates who work for companies in that estate so will be making them aware...

Perhaps NWN could point this out in the next edition?

Consultation link thingy....

I actually work down Mill Lane and know that it is used by more Vans than HGVs but a few do come down here. Throughout the day, maybe 3-4 HGVs will come down here. Also the bus station just up the road so will those be banned as well? rolleyes.gif

A petition signed by 66 local residents was received during December 2010 requesting that Heavy Commercial Vehicles (ie vehicles over 7.5 tonnes) be banned from using Mill Lane and Boundary Road (one way section), except for access and that HGV access to the Bone Lane Industrial Estate and elsewhere be via the A339, A4 and Hambridge Road.

So what is banning except for access, does that mean only vehicles which are "passing through" be banned?

It would be a stupid idea and I'm against the proposals to ban HGVs and agree vehicles banned would have to go all the way around adding about 2 miles to the journey, which is stop-start traffic so...go figure.

Good spot, I doubt anyone would have seen this.

The petition was from residents of both Boundary Road andy Mill Lane, I assume (not published). Maybe Connaught Road too..... But the decision is to apply the restriction on Mill Lane only. I wonder if that meets the approval of the petitioners?
I also wonder just how many HGVs use the road, and will not be removed because they access premises on the route. In other words, what difference the Order will make.

Stand by, Alex...... Incoming!!!!

A typical attitude of someone obsessed with the internal combustion engine.

Nothing to do with internal combustion, it's to do with logistics. Many businesses, garages, and warehouses are down Mill Road and Bone Lane. If a lorry to a warehouse or a recovery truck (for one of the 4 garages in the immediate area) comes in rom the any direction other than the east, under these proposals they would be forced to add a detour which can take up to 30 minutes in Rush Hour, around the Robin Hood and along the A4 and back through Hambridge Road - adding (to use the eco-mentalists argument) extra commissions worsen the environment!

I've never seen a HGV or truck block the road or even cause any problems, and as I said only a few come down here throughout the day so it's not too much of an issue.

so a ban isn't going to matter then.

25-30 houses could easily house 66 people.

30 minutes! It can take longer than that to drive the length of Hambridge Road in the rush hour.

I wouldn't say this has been tucked away. The petition was organised by a Siobhan Bosley (nee Sheldon)....daughter of NTC Lib Dem Ifor Sheldon.

Not sure if she lives in Mill Lane, or if it's to give the Lib Dems something to put in their newsletters.

It's been on the WBC consultation page for a few weeks, there was a letter in the NWN, and notices up in Mill Lane. Besides, a man who called David Betts who lives 15 miles away has already decided we need more lorries on the A4/Hambridge.

I am sure the local news will catch up soon
