QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ Nov 13 2016, 08:22 PM) Who is moaning about foreigners? If 100000 white English layabouts left the Country and were replaced by 100000 hard working people from any ethnicity I'd be well chuffed. Numbers.... Why do you want to set an absolute limit on the number of people living here?

QUOTE (user23 @ Nov 13 2016, 08:41 PM) Why do you want to set an absolute limit on the number of people living here? The same reason lots of other people do. This part of the Country is full. But hey settle newcomers in Scotland or Wales or the North? Cant do that....Cant tell people where to live.

Thought about moving abroad with my foreign girlfriend. Might try for an Aussie visa. I have an elderly mother though so want to look after her until its her time. Ive lived in Newbury all my life. Guess when Newbury is too busy you'll have to move again. And then again. Give it a few years and you'll end up in the Atlantic...😄

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Nov 13 2016, 09:20 PM) I think having a population policy is sensible. I think it could go towards a government KPI. Could not agree more.

QUOTE (Turin Machine @ Nov 13 2016, 11:52 PM) I think he does like this part of the country, that's just the point. An example of the white flight from London. Methinks he doth play the "Im not racist" card a bit much. It being "busy" as he puts it....😂

Like it or not, immigration is a serious issue right now; but it's a symptom hiding a much more serious problem. Identified here by User 23 in an earlier response. That is, over the last decades, we have seriously mis managed our infrastructure.
Most people don't give a **** about who comes here, provided they are peaceable and more particularly, provided we can have decent homes, reasonable jobs, health and welfare services together with a credible future for the kids.
BUT more and more, our politicians have been far more focused on other, frankly less critical issues which ironically would get much more traction if the first objective was met and maintained.
So, in a society where our leaders believe we need splash pads more than properly maintained roads; what can we expect?

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Nov 14 2016, 09:19 AM) Few are prepared to pay for it. Immigration was way to cheapen labour and help fund the services we do get. ....and therein lies the rub; can't have your cake and eat it. Mind, with the likes of Sir Philip Green and Fred Goodwin etc.etc. around, we don't even get to see the cake.
