I decided that a nice way to cool off in this hot weather would be to go swimming with my boyfriend.

Unfortunately I am unable to do this due to Ladies Only swimming, I find that it is remarkably sexist and unfair to have to force my boyfriend (and all men)out of the pool for no real reason.

I think we should either introduce men only swimming, or get rid of women only swimming, its wrong and backwards for this day and age.

Society on one hand wants people to be treated as equal and then you get signs up such as "Men Only" or "Women Only". It sends out the wrong message.

Not sure on the time but it was Kennet Leisure Centre

How long was it for? If it was a limited time and had come about because lot's of customers wanted that then fair enough. If not then they are just upsetting their customers which cannit be good for anyone.

Was an hour and a half between half seven and nine. I think it's a standard thing as its in their schedule, it's just annoying and unneccesary as women are happy to get in the pool early when their are still men in the pool, unless they hide away until someone gives the all clear

Yes, this is strange; society is been fighting inequality for years so why do they create this segregation now? We should be promoting equality. It is inequality - i.e. showing separation - that promotes division and intolerance.

Yes, but what would have happened if men requested an area or a certain time just for them? Wouldn't that be seen as sexist?

For some, swimming is an intimate moment and presumably some people, mainly women, desire a certain amount of privacy. Equality can come in different ways. For me, provided the Swimming Pool's management would install a men only session if sufficiently requested, then that could be seen as being treated equal.

Completely agree. Also women only sessions are often requested by women of a "certain age" to simply overcome the problem that many of us are a tad slower and prefer a more gentler swimming experience than men - when all mixed together we worry about who we are holding up behind us! Also as we tend to be less stronger swimmers, we prefer calmer waters! But yes - it should be balanced out by men only sessions.

Why not just have slow, middle and fast lanes?

I think it is unfair that couples and even families cant use swimming pools together whenever they are open for public use.

In fairness though why not check before you got there? If it was during "business hours" I wouldn't expect to, but that early on I'd be checking that they were open!

It's a long time since I've used the pool, but I seem to remember they had a double lane 'roped' off for serious swimmers, with the rest of the pool for those just there to enjoy themselves.

Many years ago, I used to go for a pre-work dip in the indoor pool and as a child we would go dead early in the summer when it first opened. Because the air was cool, the pool felt warmer.

I think most people would quite reasonably expect to be able to go swimming in a municipal pool within normal open hours.
