QUOTE (Turin Machine @ Nov 9 2016, 07:17 PM) This looks like part of a seismic shock wave in politics, not just in America but sweeping through Europe as well. It will be interesting to see what share of the vote Marine Le Pen gets at the next elections and whether Mrs Merkel will survive for much longer. A general sign that people are tired of the status quo and want a change away from the leftish policies so prevalent today and towards a more right of centre ground. Although it feels like living through history at the moment and only time will tell. Clinton has an awful voice. Like fingernails on a blackboard. Clinton mistakenly thought wheeling out Hollywoods great and good would inspire. It did. To vote for Trump. People dont like being told my millionaire luvvies how to vote. Clinton has deep flaws in her past about connnections to sexual misdemeanour and financial irregularities. Trump is just a **** head. They chose the **** head. And I always thought they would.

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Nov 9 2016, 08:22 PM) I believe elections are lost, more than they are gained. Many were just fed up with the Democrats. Wouldn't disagree with that, certainly not helped by Hilary Clinton who isn't particularly liked even in her own party. After Trumps acceptance speech; who knows, the future might be brighter than we anticipate.

QUOTE (dannyboy @ Nov 10 2016, 10:05 AM) Clinton won the popular vote, so in fact more Americans wanted her than wanted Trump in the White House. It is a tiny majority, but it is a majority.
The problem lies in the antebellum American Electoral College voting system. No more of a problem than our own first past the post system. Neither country has proportional voting. I wonder if the Brexit result would have been different if it had been on a constituency basis rather than a plebiscite.

The problem lies in the antebellum American Electoral College voting system. It means nothing as their girl didn't get in, but they'll use that sort of grasping at straws comment for the next four years. The Republicans would have been quite happy to use it if the result had gone the other way of course, but they all know the system and that's why they concentrate so heavily on bringing in the big numbers in California, Texas, Florida and New York. The next Presidential Elections in France and Germany in 2017 may prove interesting if their recently expanding populations from the Religion of Peace continue to upset indigenous garlic eaters and knockwurst gobblers. Frexit? Gerexit? In 2019 California will be voting to break away from the Union with their recently announced Calexit so who knows? Let's Go It Alone! - until the next big earthquake

QUOTE (Turin Machine @ Nov 10 2016, 12:52 PM) I don't think Don will be half as entertaining as we thought, the anti Muslim rhetoric has already been taken down from his website. What you mean American politicians are the same as ours.........promise anything to get into power and then totally forget what they have promised as soon as the votes are counted!

I wonder if the Brexit result would have been different if it had been on a constituency basis rather than a plebiscite. There's a cross party group looking at at the at the moment. Doesn't seem to be getting much media coverage though.
