I have not posted for many months now, but really thought the food at the opening night of Sal\'s Smokehouse BBQ at the Lion (down West Street) was so good, it deserved praise to others in the area — if smoked ribs and BBQ is up your street, I would highly recommend giving it a try. The price was more than reasonable for the quality (and quantity) of food on offer: we shared their bigger sharing platter and two side dishes between six of us, and got change from £7 each.

I\'m really hoping this becomes a huge success; I\'ll be certainly going back (tying it in with the quiz was a good plan), and it may even come close to Gurkha Chef and El Sabio as my Newbury favourites...

A *very* happy customer.

(No, I\'m not related to the chef / pub owners — just sharing what I hope will become a local success story!)

It's difficult to post to praise something without looking like a stooge, particularly since I'm more a lurker than a poster on here — hence the "I'm not related" bit, which probably just makes it looks more suspicious — but genuinely just wanted to rave about something I thought other locals might enjoy smile.gif

That's Fine mate.
It's just me being me.
I am always somewhat suspicious of postings on here praising a local business.
Maybe I will try out your recommendation!! biggrin.gif

Perhaps it would look less obvious if you didn't write the article in a way that makes it look like cheap advertising! wink.gif BTW - I think the Lion has a decent landlord who cares, and you can't say that about too many pubs in Newbury.

If it came across as rude it was probably funny

Was it something about beating meat?

No, although we did consider something along similar lines for our team name at the quiz... along with wondering about the large police presence which suddenly materialised outside the pub!

Always enjoyed visiting the Lion when I used to live down West Street. Haven't been in a while, now I've got a good reason to go back.
