Newbury Today Forum _ Newbury News _ The house of ill repute

Posted by: lordtup Sep 25 2009, 02:26 PM

So not only did we have a brothel in our back yard but I doubt any Newbury residents were aware of it's existence ( poor PR there me feels ) blink.gif

The point I wish to raise , even though I am going to get pilloried for it , is why such a harsh sentence ? Unless I have missed something they where obviously providing a service that was well patronised , the "girls were not minors or used against their will , so what is the crime apart from an outdated Victorian attitude to such things .
I know we all leap to the moral high ground at the mere mention of such activities but by virtue of them being popular surely poses the question about them being decriminalized .

If all and sundry wish to take issue with me over this posting I am quite prepared to hide behind the wall till the flack subsides , but I will expect a valid argument based on legal precedent not moral outrage .

Possibly as a deterrent to others. Although I'm not too sure in this case, in many instances, prostitution can also come hand in hand with a number of other crimes, especially drug use and dealing, but also people trafficking. By cracking down on prostitution, you would also be cracking down on these other crimes.

We also mustn’t forget equal opportunities. There was nothing stopping a brothel opening up for women to use either. However, and saying all that, I didn’t know we had brothels in Newbury. Obviously a well kept secret; probably frequented by the rich and people with rough old partners.

The question is; did NWN know about it and if they did would they have advertised it? Could one walk into Ann Summers and ask “Where is the nearest brothel please?” Or do they just sell batteries? wink.gif

Maybe we have better things to worry about . laugh.gif

I'd like to take issue - why do people keep posting new threads that sound like they are half way through already? What the **** are you talking about? I have been to the Newbury Today home page and there's nothing on there that ties in with this, and if there is you should have included a link. And the brothels address and telephone number wink.gif

Newbury has has a number of brothels over the years.

It's because they're illegal that they're run by characters like those in the News story.

If you find the Home Page were the story is copy the address from the Address bar and then paste it on here.

Why? I don't.

Well, maybe the editor puts the BBcode in for you automatically. It has to be there, anyway.

what editor? I just copy and paste and that is it. There is no BBcode in it other than what I've said. I also run two forums and we do it exactly that way.

No problem; we all don't know at one time or another. That is until somebody teaches us.

There is an insert link button above the post panel...

Posted by: Darren Sep 25 2009, 09:15 PM

That allows you to rename the link to something shorter or more meaningful.

Back on topic.

Given that governments etc. have tried to stop the oldest profession (not to mention used it too), we need to give this outdated Victorian morality a swift kick in the pants. After all, any society that has to cover piano legs, lest they cause carnal urges, has something seriously wrong.

Legalise prostitution, bring it out of the shadows and remove the risks that go with it - for both sides. It can even be taxed!!

At the dinner table.

"Daddy, I've decided what I want to be when I grow up...a whore"

"Ah...that's my girl, just like your Mum."

That insert button is if you want to add something to the link such as "click here". But as our friend is working his way around inserting links we don't want to complicate things. Maybe when he has got the hang of it; to be honest there is no need for it unless one wants to show how clever he or she is... saying that I've used it a few times but I got fed up with it.

Have you ever thought it is you who has the problem; seeing as you are the only one who moans about going off track. wink.gif

Sister Catherine was asking all the Catholic school children in fourth grade what they want to be when they grow up.

Little Sheila said, "When I grow up, I want to be a prostitute!"

Sister Catherine's eyes grow wide and she barked, "What did you say?!"

"A prostitute!" Sheila exclaimed.

Sister Catherine breathed a sight of relief and said "Whew! Thank God! I thought you said 'A Protestant'!"

I have no problem, just that you and others are rude and ruin threads. Notwithstanding that you are as about as funny as a car crash.

I could say the same about you; but I don't want to ruin this thread... I'll leave that to you. wink.gif

The point I make with this anecdote is, it could be your daughter and I doubt you would be chuffed.

And the point I was making with my anecdote was that to some there are worse things in life than being a street girl wink.gif

Yes and none of them, I would say, should be coveted (by one's daughter).

Has anyone seen all the adverts at the back of the NWN and Advertiser for the massage parlours????

Im pretty sure that each and everyone one of them are brothels or prostitutes, and i have just looked at one of their websites and dont understand how it can be anything but a brothel. I could be wrong but how can NWN have these ads in their paper? If they are illegal businesses, surly NWN are helping them in their trade.

Brothels have been around for years, and i agree that if made legal, they could be made safe for the owners, workers and customers.......and would be very funny to see the adverts at the job centre wink.gif

Advertisers are not stupid; they know what is what. At the end of the say it is about money, not about morality (unless it is blatantly breaking the law). As the saying goes; "prostitution is the oldest profession" and it will stay that. The only difference between now and the past is a lot of them now cater for women; equal opportunities for all.

I agree that if it is made legal and controlled then a lot of this slave trading would die.
