Has anyone driven onto the bollards again lately?

It did happen regularly not long ago.

No buses to follow through any more! rolleyes.gif
Do the taxis still use the ones in Wharf Street?

It mostly happened when following a bus.

No, its simply conditioning; learned behaviour. I suspect the number of bridge hoppers has also dropped dramatically for same reason.

GMR is right. The vast majority of collisions were while following permitted traffic. Without following the permitted traffic, the bollards would be 'fully erect'.

Like sheep. As there are now few if any bollard hits that dispels the visitors myth and leaves the locals who either think they can jump the gate or are driving without due care, that is probably because they are mentally on auto pilot. Don't get me wrong, I've always thought the bollards are an inordinately expensive solution to a minor problem. However, that does not excuse failing to read road signs.

To be fair I think most of us drive on autopilot. However, I think most bollard hits are from those that are not familiar with the area.

Driving on auto pilot is one of the key reasons for accidents. We should be concentrating the whole time. I know I'm just as guilty but it does not make it right. I'm not sure if there are any numbers, but if the 'hits' are mainly by those not familiar with the area, why the decrease? Nothing else has changed.

Taxis and buses don't use the Market Place any more, therefore the cars can't follow them.

I've never had an accident. There are plenty of people who do concentrate and have had accidents. Autopilot doesn't mean you are not aware of what is around you.

Wonder if the driver who drove on the wrong side of the road to avoid the bollards and then proceeded up Northbrook Street on Saturday was on auto pilot or learned behaviour.

Learned behaviour; thought she'd get away with it as its just a country Town.

That's odd. If you meant the north end, then I've seen bollards on both sides of the road when approaching West Street.

No, just on the left of the traffic island as you approach from the North.
I agree they should be both sides as some do perform the "island hop" as above.

Well, I definitely saw four bollards, two on each side of the island and I was totally sober!

Perhaps they've taken them away again for some reason.

The green meanies have been taking up a removable bollard (maybe two) to the north end of Northbrook Street every day for a few weeks now at 10am. When they manually raise the electric bollard at 10am they now plant a removable bollard on the 'other' side of the road too. Can catch a few drivers out that have stopped in the area and try to drive out just after the bollard has gone in as they now have to turn around and get back over the bridge and escape via Market Place..... (maybe that's what JayJay saw?)

There were too many that were happy to just drive around the rising bollard to get into the place.....
