Apologies if this has been discussed here before, but I have noticed (on the flyer inside the NWN about how most excellent Newbury's parking is) that cars aren't going to be allowed to use Parkway bridge once the building works have finished. So unless we travel before 10 or after 5, all the traffic will be going via the marvellous light sequence on the Sainsbury's roundabout. I wonder if this traffic flow advice was obtained from the same people who have installed the new 1-way system at the retail park? I love internet shopping.

Sorry Ziggy, are you saying that the closure of the American Bridge will cause unacceptable delays at the Sainbury's roundabout? Do you have evidence to support that, such as transit times and flows?

The bridge is already closed to mere mortals. It was always a convenient (and safe) route during off peak periods between the north and south of town, and avoided the idiots who insisted on turning left from the right-hand lane at the Robin Hood, instead of going up the A339. (They still do it, and swear blind they are in the right.)

While you might be right (I will take into account that people might chose the wrong lane and will lookout for this when using the road), but I believe the Robin Hood gyratory is an abortion of an intersection. I often c0ck it up, but never used to.

It's perfectly OK for people to accidentally choose the wrong lane if it's the first time they've been that way (in spite of the clear road sign and road markings). It's when they insist they were in the right and swear and hoot at you while nearly causing a collision.

It's a confrontation I do my best to avoid when I can.

I also notice that as one comes along Kings Road and towards the big Sainsbury's roundabout, the first direction markings on the left hand lane indicate that your vehicle can turn left or proceed straight on from this lane. But, as the roundabout is approached, the left lane becomes two and both are forced to turn left. This has caught me out.
