Do those things actually work or are they just a deterrent banking on people not knowing?

Yes they do work and there have been many prosecutions. Om motorways, SPECS has caused 100s of motorists a day to be prosecuted

PS If they face the front then my bikes and nearly all other's aint got no front plates!! tongue.gif

Very true - or travel very closely to the vehicle in front!!

Although some SPECS cameras are being mounted as rear facing - so be careful out there

Even more so than the potential for you to have a 'head-on' on ANY other road? How do you feel when you travel to Hungerford for instance? National speed limit applies (which means quite a few zip along at 80mph)...yet there never has been a central barrier to prevent cars drifting into the opposing lane. Now THAT would be disastrous I agree. The A339 through the road works is pretty mild and if you get twitchy about that then I don't see how you can be confident driving anywhere..

A subtle difference between the width of the Hungerford road and the now very narrow A339. I didn't say I was twitchy, that was your interpretation. I drive the A339 bit daily and, like the guy who ended up with a lamppost through his windscreen and out the back of the car through no fault of his own, wonder about oncoming traffic, a cones width away, over which I have no control.

Ok, forget the A4 to Hungerford as it's wide. What about the B4009 to Hermitage. Bends, 60mph and rather narrow in places? B4494 through Snelsmore and beyond? Had more than it's fair share of deaths. Are you as apprehensive about driving that route as you are using a road with a temporary 30mph limit? Just asking. It seems curious that's all

No, that's also a road I drive every day. (the B4009). I am aware of twats coming too fast in the opposite direction but it doesn't bother me. Neither does the bit of A339 we are talking about. I am just a little more aware that's all.

You of course as a rebellious Roman gladiator, will be fearless.

I hope that you don't do 60mph along there by the way even if you do have a modified chariot. Most of the road including through Long Lane and Curridge, is 30mph and the remainder is 50mph.

It's rather ironic using this road as an example. That's because it so well demonstrates the Spartacus view that many speed limits are imposed to satisfy short term political whims. The 30 / 50 speed short interval switchback is as irritating as it is unnecessary; but it keeps the local noise happy!

Cheers MM (Jay)

Sometimes he has some on the shelf in a bottle, he can order it in for you or alternatively he may have some in a 5L tub he will dispense to you.
I think it's like £12 or something like that!
Sorry for delay.
