Does anyone know if the Narrowboat is scheduled to reopen?

There was talk of a retail redevelopment of the area but I see the pub is still there and there is no evidence of construction work.

Walking along the Kennet a few days ago, I could not help but notice how shabby and downmarket the area around the pub is now.

That sounds even more downmarket...the gambling shops anyway.

I wouldn't worry. Most gambling establishments will close this year when the FOBT menace finishes. This particular site will most likely be flats.

Nothing deteriorates quicker than a disused building. There was work in the car park about 3 months ago but nothing since so it is assumed that the developers then pulled out. On a side issue I do have trouble seeing the homeless sat in town centre doorways in the wet when there are empty buildings stood...well empty. But of course our beloved council would rather spend money on a flash cycle path along the A4.

Don't worry comrade Corbyn is going to "end" homelessness. I guess he is going to have kidnap squads for the ones that choose to live on the streets and turn down offers of help!

Had some good nights in that pub back in the eighties!
Used to be packed out most nights. Was the "in pub" amongst many at that time!
Called The White House in those days.
Live bands etc.

It used to be good, then something changed, new landlord? And it started to slide. Became very low rent.

It's often the case that one small shift in the dynamic means a steady change in the patrons and the feel of a place, I used to drink in the rising sun in woolhampton years ago, till the landlord changed prompting some of the regulars to go elsewhere, from then on it just went into a slow but steady decline. Now it's gone. Too many pubs going to the wall now, sign of the times I suppose.

Don't be silly; this simply not the Hard Left way.

Homelessness will be redefined in "Newspeak" and thus be got rid of at the stroke of a pen

The homeless will be reclassified as 'victims' of the Tory scum. Probably offered positions in the government.

I don't believe anyone chooses to be homeless. I think are some who choose not to accept help that comes with certain caveats, and I am sure there are some who made bad choices which led them to their situation. But it flies in the face of human nature to make life hard for yourself.

To some it's a way of life in afraid, there's also a lot out there with mental health issues, many, as you say, don't want conditions heaped on them by people who really should know better. Southampton and Portsmouth are quite good with their outreach programs, many staffed by volunteers, there's even a vets service to help their pets to cope.
