What? Tory? Yup! Right on! Not just the Tories though, was it.

Yes It was. Tories, DUP (outsourced tories) and 2 independents. The independents were elected as Tories but are currently suspended from the party.

Conspiracy theorists amongst us may well ask if this is not some non-story dreamt up by the spin-doctor general in order to deflect from something a little less palatable . Surely if there is a loophole in the system it is up to HM collector of taxes to plug it ? I have no time for the idle rich but if someone made a cost effective offer to me to reduce my tax bill , my legs would move pretty rapidly .
Interesting note to the remoners , Isles of Man and Channel are not members of the EU so soon our respective fiscal systems may be a little more comparable .

Bangs on about Brexit, soveriegnity, and patriotism but is happy not to pay tax. How does that go together?

I went on a speed awareness course there once... was disappointed to find we had to pay for our coffee! Otherwise I have always been tempted but never gone along.

It is a nice pub and it probably turns a profit. Most pubs do, it's just everyone (especially in more affluent areas) expect more propfit. They want second homes, foreign holidays and flash cars. Simply making a living isn't all that ayttractive. Especially when you are working pub hours

Our Queen (whilst popular) is a queen of abstinence. She does very little in terms of governance and leadership, she is basically a charity figurehead. It's impossibe to tell if there is a financial benefit to having her and all the hangers on, and I am sure the tourists come to see the palaces as she doesnt really come out for them. Hello by the way, not posted for a while and just fancied an argument wink.gif

I don't come on much anymore as I don't live close, but I try and keep up to date with my hometown. I am also vehemently against fox hunting and gave been looking into which groups drag hunt, which ones pretend and which ones advocate fox hunting. Woth support at an all time low, I was surprised to see that the NWN is promoting the hunt and the pictures as some sort of community event, and will be running a "feature" on it in the next copy of the paper very dissapointing.

Quite so, but they must have been aware of the election and the issues. Even in this week's NWN a letter from Peter Norman says spoil your ballot paper if you disagree but can't see a candidate to vote for. Arguably then, the 66% absentees could be taken as 'satisfied with the status quo'. They certainly can't complain about toilet closures, robe gate etc can they?

Yes they can. They are still citizens and they probably pay/have paid their taxes.

I remember using that particular station in 1995/96 from memory, it couldn't have been long after that.

GMR have you never claimed any benefits? You have a daughter don't you? Correct me if I'm wrong though, but if you do, don't you want the best you can get for her? Would you compromise your morals and beliefs to give her a better life?

My personal thoughts, take them or leave them:

1. The more the merrier, you need more people to make it interesting, even if you don't agree and actually sometimes it's nice to hear other opinions. I have changed my mind on many subjects as a result of discussions on here.

2. Not everything is an argument - some people seem to try and "win" at having a discussion.

3. You can ignore people if they don't interest you

4. People aren't always what they claim to be. We can all pretend to be anyone or anything on here.

5. You can get some good advice. I said I didn't like Newbury, User23 told me top move so I did, and I love living in Wantage now! It's one of the reasons I don't post so much now, but I like to see how you all are doing from time to time.

I use my xbox name, I was Strafin Stevens on there, strafing being the act of moving position but maintaining focus on a target, usually with a weapon. And it was sort of a homage to Shakin' Stevens.

I shorten it for use on here.

I would still rather vote Tory than the useless Lib Dems and would never, ever vote for Labour.

Never say never!

I was a Tory councillor but I voted Labour last election. I thought it was the right thing to do.

4 days at college? That leaves three more in the week to go and earn £20. I appreciate that the dynamic has changed which was your point, but it's not exactly making life hard is it?

It's like the horsemeat scandal all over agin. I don't think the act itself is the first issue in a lot of people's minds. It's the deceit.

Annoying though that some VW owners have been getting away with less road tax than they should be paying.
Road tax is now based on emission figures, yes?

Road Tax?

Whilst I think the council leave a lot to be desired, I do not have a high regard for RUP either. I believe the panel based on what I have read.

There are no selfless acts. If people are honest about though, I don't mind. It's the pretence.
