Fancy a little forum poll to see who we'd send to Europe?

Was there any particular issue that turned you off UKIP, and likewise anything particular that turned you onto the Greens?

UKIP would be a protest vote; I wouldn't want them in charge. Greens: although I doubt they have what it take to run a country or a continent, they are probably closest to my moral beliefs. Like with everything, they don't tick all the boxes (I suspect we 'need' fracking for instance), but I feel we will have to move in a different direction at some point. The current capitalist model is flawed and not sustainable.

I now believe that voting shouldn't be about voting for the party that is most likely to win and is closets to what you believe, I think it should be about only voting for what party you believe is closet to your own principles; even if it is apparently futile: if we keep doing it the same way, we will keep doing it the same way.

I traditionally have been a Lib Dem (I have voted Tory too) locally, but I vowed never to vote Lib Dem locally again. This is simply because of the way they have gone about the Greenham depot issue. And while I have no personal issue with Julian Swift-Hook, I don't like his methods. I also didn't like the way they went spend crazy in the Blair years.

We recently had an opportunity to have what I believe would have been a better, more democratic and representative voting system, but too many people just simply didn't agree. Sadly.

Good point, Simon missed having a none of the above, but that might have been deliberate.

I watched the Green Party's election broadcast and I thought I had been transported back to the 1970s. Everything re-nationalised and a big bossy, nanny state. No thanks.

You get that with any party, except with the Tories you get big bossy business. I resent all the main parties housing policies, its ruinous.

Yes, but for all its faults, big bossy business has never made me have to go to bed by candlelight, as I sometimes had to when everything was run by government.

The Tories were supposed to deliver small state and Big Society, but there's just too much vested interest and the idea simply never caught on. The Liberals were the only party to advocate laissez-faire small state, but there are rather a lot of socialists in the Liberal Democrats so it's not clear where the Lib Dems stand.

I thought the Green Party's broadcast had been written by an over optimistic seven year old!

In other European countries the Greens seem far better organised and managed and as a result are taken more seriously. Their leader in the UK, Natalie Bennet, was elected only after winning the third round of vote counting on a total turnout of 25% - and that's from her own party.

There's time yet, if the government don't pull their finger out! However, that was the time when the whole family didn't have to go to work all day to pay for child minders and over priced homes and finance too may cars that we need to carriage our obese bodies everywhere when we are not too busy watching Jeremy Kyle! tongue.gif

In seriousness, there are things I disagree with in the Green party. Privatisation has not brought all that it promised but I cannot see how we can put the genie back in the bottle. My main concern is ecological, they will seek where practical to ban the abuse of animals and we need for the sake of sustainability to seek better technology to reduce our need for fossil fuel. Energy famine will destroy capitalism if it is not dealt with more robustly.

Energy famine will destroy every society, so we need fracking and/or nuclear, both of which the Green Party object to.

Really lots of socialists! Where are they? I am as you know Simon a committed 'Champagne Socialist' in that I wish everyone to benefit from at least a Middle Class existence with the opportunities that this brings I fail to see what the problem is with this.

Heaven help us all if Ukip really become the dominant Party in Europe, for in my opinion membership of a reformed European Union has to be better than being alone.

As with Andy Capp, I rather like Green policies, but believe that the traditional Green policies should be a 'golden thread' throughout all parties and not seen as their alone. As you may expect there exists a very strong Green lobby within the Liberal Democrats.

Overall, surprise surprise it is the LibDem's for me, for it is the Party of IN.

Tomorrow will though be a very interesting day, and come Sunday when we know the results I suspect that ALL of the major parties will have much to reflect on if they wish to effectively fight the 2015 General Election.

Nuclear power would sort all of our energy problems out.
And it's clean
I honestly believe this is the future for our household supplies.

Greens cannot ever be taken seriously.

Unless it's about trees.

Serious business.
