I see in one of local papers that our MP's 20 year old son arrived at a charity event
in a helicopter. Also described as a VIP visitor.

Pretentious more like dry.gif
Important..perhaps in that families mindset!

Obviously his Father's alleged concern for the environment doesn't extend
to other family members or the need to rein on expenditure.

If he paid for it himself then I really couldn't care less. If I had the money I would fly around in helicopters too. At least he bothered going to a charity event, its probably alot more than most of us do.

More shocked he was described as a VIP than at a rich man's son bopping around in a helicopter. Maybe it is only the lower/middle class "all in it together".

Did he pilot it himself? Presumably the OP is against all forms of recreational aviation. And Formula 1 racing. And cars in general. And anything else that can be said to impact the environment.

I agree that the "VIP" label is over the top - but that's probably just the reporter, and it wasn't the main point of the post.

The post seemed to me more a pop at our MP - nothing wrong with that of course. The environmental issue being added at the end just as an afterthought. The general tenor suggests that the writer would have a major issue with anything they did - rather sad really!

Rein-in surely, to rein-on would make the proverbial horse run faster I think.

He's clearly important enough for you to mention him.

What's next, "Benyon's dog fed on expensive chow from metal tins, No concern for environment or ££".

You miss the important point of the visit in that his great......great grandfather founded the school. The kids enjoyed the arrival by helicopter so what the heck.

Good on him... he's got the money.... if we were in his place we would be doing exactly the same. I think it is more to do with jealously.

Is it a case of jealousy, or a case of double standards.

While us little people see our salaries, benefits etc being whittled away, the privliged sone of the local MP is finding more ways to flaunt their wealth in our faces.

Priceless really when I wrote to the MP in question to complain about the unfairness of cutting the child benefit and his response was somebody gotta suck it up (paraphrase).

It's clear the somebody gotta suck it up, but it's not the very well off who will be missing the money while him and well off MP cronies are not effected by the cuts they are making.

Isn't this how the French Revolution started?

Communism, no.. Socialism meant sausages.. You didn't see people hungry and begging on the streets of Moscow before the fall of Communism. Sure, the party elite were considered richer than the ordinary person.

In this case I see a set of double standards. While the majority of the country is feeling the pinch of this economic climate, you see the son of the MP flaunting wealth. Surely the father could of said drive to the school. It's not like the son is a member of the Royal family.

As the father is a public sector worker, will he have to work until he is 66 to collect his MP pension, which I am pretty sure will be more than the nurse who has to now put in 40 years of work to get hers.

There will always be those who have more than others, it's a fact of life. The preception on one rich kid who is flaunting his familiy's wealth while the father is cutting the benefits, etc of others is not a good one.

It's jealousy Phil. It would be double-standards if Master Benyon had turned up in a clapped-out Ford Sierra, but turning up in a helicopter is really only something rich people can do, and resenting that wealth is jealousy.
