QUOTE (je suis Charlie @ May 29 2019, 03:32 PM) Probably too honest if truth be told. Still, Boris is still odds on favourite in Westminster. With Tusk saying Non! To any further negotiations, unless they revoke (which would be suicide) they have simply run out of time. What a mess! From Gina Miller, "But the grim reality is that with so many unscrupulous politicians so close to taking the leadership of the Conservative party, and the office of prime minister, a no-deal Brexit seems more likely than ever before."

QUOTE (je suis Charlie @ May 29 2019, 11:49 AM) As it should, man's a buffoon. Imagine? A politician lying? Wow! If every politician who was economical with the truth was hauled before the beak the judicial system would be in gainful employment till the end of the century. To waste time and money on this charade when real criminals seem to operate with impunity only emphasises what a card carrying w****r this Marcus Ball is and though I am no supporter of BJ I do hope he gets a decent settlement for defamation.

It rather some up the "loon" element of the #fbpe remain camp I am afraid. It would be interesting to analyse the data on the profiles (wealth, location and ethnicity) of these "dubious" types that funded this farce.

QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ May 29 2019, 07:46 PM) Be an interesting precedent. Blair, Campbell (WMD), and every remainer that said we would be in recession if we voted out would be fair game. #canofworms. Crowdfunding has already started to prosecute scaremongering remain MPs. There’s a difference between economic forecasts and blatant lies. And I agree about WMD. But what was your view on Iraq at the time? Did you on balance support the war?

Did you on balance support the war? I wasn't marching in London but I have always opposed wars against dictatorships in the Middle East. I have been very consistent on that. It NEVER ends well. The only exception to that was the first Iraq war when Sadaam invaded Kuwait. That was justifiable, to a degree.

QUOTE (Biker1 @ May 30 2019, 08:32 AM) Perhaps the Liberal Democrats should be prosecuted for blatant lying in their party name. Democrats who want to overturn a democratic vote? Or labour for pledging to "respect the result of the referendum"?

QUOTE (Strafin @ May 30 2019, 12:24 PM) It's interesting that some people think politicians are allowed to lie, and that it would be daft to believe everything they say. Except when they were told that the referendum would stand no matter what.
Can't have it both ways. Nice observation.

Can't have it both ways. Two points, If the ref had gone remain would you still be saying that. If it's ok to attempt to prosecute a brexiteer, presumably it's ok to prosecute any mp who misleads. If I had a time machine I would go back and do whatever was necessary to stop the referendum in the first place. It's divided the nation and its brought both Tory and labour parties to the brink of destruction.

No, it was said that we would be in recession if we left the EU. Voting out and actually leaving the EU are two very different things, as we are certainly now aware. Since we haven't actually left the EU yet, the validity of these statements is yet to be evaluated and therefore no prosecutions could or should be made on that basis.

Just voting to leave would cause a DIY recession, we were told.

If the following is the article/quote that you are referring to then I can see how you might have interpreted it that way but I certainly didn't. I'll leave everybody else to form their own opinions: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-r...rendum-36355564

The economy is actually in a very good place at the moment.

The economy is actually in a very good place at the moment. Businesses are moving or planning to. But your analogy is incorrect, moving now is really just an insurance policy. The real damage will come after when we lose inward investment jobs. Obviously losing frictionless trade will mean more job losses. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business...n-a8792296.html
