Just seen that he has died - one of my boyhood heroes, and a lot of other peoples as well, I expect. RIP

Bobby Robson was a good ambassador for football. He was probably one of the last gentleman managers. He started his career as a player and then moved on to club management - winning the FA and a European trophy with Ipswich - and then moving on to manage England. He built a good English team. A true gentleman.

RIP

We mustn’t forget that he also took Ipswich to second position in the old league division one; which was a great achievement for a small club.

As England’s manager it was the “Hand of God” that sent England out of the world cup. What might have been if the Argentinean didn’t cheat? Then there was the tears - Gazza’s - in the semi-final against Germany when they lost on penalties; missed kicks by England stars. He was the most successful England manager after Sir Alf Ramsey.

I endorse the sentiment expressed for a gentleman and a sportsman par excellance.
What a shame that today's over paid prima donna's haven't inherited some of his work ethos.
RIP.
