Went to the Battle of the Bands at the Racecourse last Friday night. Totally disgusted - result fixed before anyone played a note. Sorry for Greenham Common Trust, who obviously organised this worthwhile event in good faith, and the bands who gave their all - it was never a level playing field. Interested to hear what others thought....

Why do you think that? It just sounds a bit like you've a vested interest....

I should think everyone there had a vested interest, some more 'vested' than others. There were obviously supporters of all the bands there. The only one in a position to influence the result was the manager of the 'winning' band. I was impressed with both The Mini Band and The Crave, would have been just as happy to see the Jammin Dodgers perform, just don't think it was right that they were in the competition when there was such an obvious opportunity to influence the outcome.

How was it not a level playing field?

Newbury Rock School / manager of the Jammin Dodgers had their hands all over the event. There was only one of the judges, previously published in NWN , there on the night - the other two turned out to be friend and colleague of the manager. It was an open secret on the night that the Jammin Dodgers would be put through as winners, whether they gave the best performance or not. Most of the gear being used was from Newbury Rock School, which in my book gives a clear advantage - the other bands were not allowed to bring any kit barring instruments. The only band who had a photo taken before the event kicked off, i.e. in daylight as can be seen in this weeks' NWN were the Jammin Dodgers (surprise), and the reporting/review of the event consists mostly of publicity for Newbury Rock School, bands of the manager and friends of the manager. I really hope that if something like this is run again it can be impartial - this time it clearly wasn't.

Wouldn't be the first rock concert affected by the uneven quality of the grass.

Hopefully not at a kids' Battle of the Bands though.

Maybe she is just a music lover who lives to see fair play.

Why does every one have to have an ulterior motive......

I know, but who says I agree; just countering your argument. I said PERHAPS, by the way.

I got that.

Strafin was asking if she was biased, I was suggesting she might be just wanting to see fair play. And your contribution was to say that she might be biased. We'd already been there.

And repetition is illegal? And where's the evidence for your 'not everyone thinks like you' attack on me? The OP has not done a very good job in explaining themselves so they have left it to our imagination to fill in the blanks.

Not everyone does think that the OP must have some kind of reason, other than a wish to see fair play, to post.

Therefore, not everyone thinks the same.

You actually said: Not everyone thinks like you. Why me?

To be honest, when I heard the result, my first thought was fix! tongue.gif

The OP was the first one by Janejones. Normal adults don't generally get so upset over a kids music competition that would go and open an account on a forum and have a bit of a rant - unless they have some vested interested. It doesn't make the point any less valid, but would shed some light on to posters feelings. Equally I could be completely wrong, and there may be nothing more to it, that is why I asked the question.
