Found one of these thorn apples growing over the allotments last week, and another one today. Seems it's the year for them if you read this morning's Telegraph.

Photo taken by Teun Spaans courtesy of Wikipedia.

It's a poisonous relative of deadly nightshade and henbane. Ironically it was growing next to the hens and it's possible the seed came in as a contaminant of the hen food. Some people take it recreationally because it's a halluncinogen, but I'm not that daft so I can't say, but apparently it's more likely to cause agitation and confusion, that is if it doesn't actually kill you.

That's it really. It's an unusual poisonous plant that causes agitation and confusion and we've had a few growing over the allotment. The plant made the Telegraph today so I thought it was worth a post.

I do a lot of gardening and I haven't heard of this plant before, I found the article interesting and I'm going to mention it on my gardening forum. Thanks for putting it up.

I'm not a gardiner - but that's really interesting. Thanks for the link - which expands JeffG's comment 'Datura intoxication typically produces a complete inability to differentiate reality from fantasy'...enough said laugh.gif Anyway - great post!
