I have now seen everything.
On Wednesday morning ( forgive delay ) a white transit van slid passed me sideways while trying to ascend our hill with one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding a phone to his ear .
I stood there in abject amazement at this stupidity , then it dawned on me why you never see a policeman ........They are all hiding rolleyes.gif

Police cant be everywhere my friend, wish they were but they arnt, and i expect there not hiding just doing paperwork and they havent got the best cars to go around in the snow in. Newbury police station covers a vast area not just newbury. plus if people cant get into work then that affects police precence aswell.

It really is dangerous driving using a mobile. One trick often observed on A34 and other main roads is for drivers to slip in slow lane and keep well below limit. Sound your horn as you pass, usually does the trick. Agree Police can't be everywhere, but no reason we can't help - be like Tesco - every little helps!

My , if rather sarcastic , point being that the police are staying out of the way because they more than most are aware of the dangers of such actions , and therefore have no desire to endanger themselves . tongue.gif

I really can't understand why drivers still do it when most, if not all modern mobiles have a speaker setting. Admittedly the phone would have to be answered but at least that would not be as bad as hanging onto it. Before I got my current car, which has bluetooth so is therefore fully handsfree, I used a dirty great lump of bluetac to stick it to the centre of the steering wheel!!

Reminds me of a friends little boy who's class at junior school a few years ago had to write a short story on why their father's were clever.
His story went, 'My dad is more clever than anyone else because he can steer the car with his knees while he rolls his fag.' laugh.gif laugh.gif

Reminds me of my misspent youth when it was de rigueur to comb one's hair whilst driving , which was achieved by steering with the knees , with the intention of catching the eye of any young lady gullible enough to be impressed by this juvenile folly . Sufficient to say not too many were . The difference being that at that time there was very little traffic on the roads and that there was travelled at lot lower speeds . Well my Morris Oxford did anyway rolleyes.gif

You will be pleased to no that Wednesday morning was spent dealing with a few(!) accidents with all that snow. You will also be pleased to know that those that could get the cars out of Newbury Police Station were joined by officers from many other forces who could not get to their own place of work. Be dammed if im losing a days leave for a bit of snow. It's great fun. I got out to some of the villages this week in a 4x4. The cars just would be able to and met some lovely people all helping each other out. One thing I will say about the snow if it makes everybody nice again!
