QUOTE (user23 @ Nov 16 2010, 06:53 PM) I notice they haven't gone up yet. Sure they have, they've gone up 14% this year and now cost £46k.

Whilst I'm asking, has anyone seen a program of town centre events for Christmas? I noticed last week they put the old 'lamp post' up outside Camp Hopsons for one of the Christmas lights. There is a guide in with this weeks advertiser. You can probably find the events here http://www.newburyevents.co.uk/

QUOTE (GMR @ Nov 16 2010, 10:06 PM) Whatever Christmas lighting we have when we go outside Newbury we soon realise what we’ve got is second fiddle to everybody else. Hungerford usually makes an effort every year, we always try to make an effort in not making an effort. Is that the cheaper option? If you need more hands to the pump in our effort to make less effort then count me in... As long as it saves money.... Every little helps....

QUOTE (Bofem @ Nov 16 2010, 10:38 PM) Nov 26 is switch on, which means Southern Electric will be putting them up and testing them this Sunday (go on lads, have some double time on the Newbury taxpayer!). I'd say Sunday is the most sensible day to do it.

Hungerford's lights are pretty much the work of one town councillor who spends weeks of his own time checking the bulbs and supervising the erection (erhum!). They are funded by Hungerford Town Council and local businesses. And yep, they are certainly the best around for many miles. Now if Newbury had just one or two dedicated councillors, and support from businesses then perhaps they could have something more worthwhile also.

QUOTE (On the edge @ Nov 16 2010, 09:09 PM) I'm rather glad. Set up often clashed with Rememberance Sunday in the past; which was undignified to say the least. This was done to save money on road closure. Some people may have considered it as thoughtless, and others think spending the money to close the roads thoughtless, also.

QUOTE (GMR @ Nov 17 2010, 06:01 PM) You are very lmuch ike User23, they must breed them a certain way so you are permitted to join WBC. It seems being stingy – a trait of councils – sort of rolls over into outside life: i.e. ‘cyber ink’. Obviously your concerns about ‘cyber ink’ doesn’t roller to your own usage of fantasy ink. Or it could be that you are just a rambling nuisance?

QUOTE (GMR @ Nov 17 2010, 08:22 PM) And this coming from you; pot, kettle and black comes to mind. You make it sound like I care about whether I'm a hypocrite or not. I don't, but you dunnarf come out with some right old ill-timed drivel.
