I think if she was observing she would have already commented on this thread. Probably she only has access to the computer at certain times or maybe she has to go to the library to access a computer.

Valid point, thanks

See my earlier post ref; Jane Elliott's blue eyes/brown eyes experiment. It got her into alot of trouble in the late 60's & 70's, but Boy! didn't it teach a memorable lesson to everyone involved, both children, their parents & in more recent times adults interested in psychology. Think it is now considered not to be p.c & strangely radical?!

This was an interesting experiment; which i read about many years ago. However, it also created controversy.

Rather than go into any great depth here and bore people ridged I'll put the link up for people to judge for themselves.

My 15 yr old daughter was in Poundland with her friend last Wednesday and there was an adult customer in the shop racially abusing the shopkeeper! It happens a lot unfortunately. Even in Newbury! sad.gif

I only found out about it the day before yesterday so it would not have been much help calling the police then. My daughter did nothing because the shopkeeper just ignored the abuser and started serving my daughters friend as if nothing had happened. He was obviously, sadly, used to it. My daughter said that the abuser was quite obviously either drunk or on drugs.

Ossy1, just out of curiousity if somebody had called the police would the person have been arrested? and following the arrest what would have been the likelyhood of it going further than the old slap on the wrist?

Gumbo I've not read the whole thred yet, i just saw my name!!, I'll have a read later and get back to you. Please be advised if this is an ongoing investigation I cannot comment. If it is not I can only give advice based upon my opinion. Please don't ever quote me when dealing with the police let the officer dealing with you conduct their own investigation.

I am sure something should be done here, racial abuse i am sure, is against the law. No person should have to put up with it.

Right Gumbo I assume your question was in relation to the poundland incident???
If so:
Firstly there needs to be a victim in this case. That victim needs to provide a statement of complaint.
Witnesses back up the victim's account.
Or alternativly if the offender was still there when police arrived and was observed still being abusive then yes I would have arrested them! for a public order offence, this would not nessecarily then need a victim.

If the offender was not there and there was a complaint the offender would need to be found. People think that can be easy but if the person is not known then it can be hard. There are strict laws on showing victims/witnesses CCTV evidence and photos of likely offenders.

As for further action and outcome I really cannot comment, this is out of police hands and is for the CPS and magistrates.

REMEMBER THIS IS JUST MY OPINION BASED ON THE INFORMATION GIVEN ON HERE, IT IS NOT LEGALLY BINDING AND IN NO WAY REFLECTS THE POLICE SERVICE AS A WHOLE....
