After recieveing an invite for the shaw hosue school reunion from the faceback website and others who attened the the school i had no idear they were charging £5 entry fee.
I couldnt attend because of work commitments, some of the people i spoke to were disappointed by no mention of entry fee and the limited access to the old mansion the which was the idear of paying an entrance fee. Most of us were not even teached in the old building as it was closed due the health and safety reasons, i can see where these people are coming from if you recieve and invite the information is usally printed on the ticket i seems like another money making scheme and people will be put attending another event!

Reading what people have been saying - charges, no buggies, etc - it seems it was badly managed, badly advertised and all they’ve got out of it was bad publicity. I think this reunion should be put up as an example in how NOT to organise a reunion party.

Concerning charging; it seems that their objective was to make money out of this exercise. Not letting people know before hand and then turning up puts people in an embarrassing situation and they then feel obliged to hand over the money so they could enter. All this event would have needed was guards posted at the doors with machine guns and you’ve got the perfect setting for a remake of Colditz. smile.gif

Who was charging the £5? Was it the organisers or the council?

Both - it was organised by the Shaw House management (part of WBC's 'Heritage Service').
