The 67 room Travel Lodge is opening next month, does anyone know if there is staff or customer parking on site? I vaguely remember that the idea was they would park in the new Park Way car park........which isn't open for some months...

I think there are a few parking places on site - and there is WBC parking in Pelican Lane.

I recently stayed in the new Travel Lodge on Paignton seafront. They advertise parking on a first come, first serve basis at that particular hotel. despite it having more than 100 rooms, it actually has 38 parking spaces, which were, of course, all taken. People abandoned their cars anywhere, effectively blocking the rear & side of the hotel to vehicles wider than a car. I raised this issue with the chain as a safety issue (fire, ambulance etc wouldn't have gained access) to which the response was that they advertise the limmited number of spaces & expect customers to park responsibly. I don't understand how planning is granted when it wouldn't be for, say, a block of flats with no parking?

It is common for city centre Travelodges to have no parking spaces at all.

I thought that there was a planning requirement not to provide 1 parking space per flat for those developments close to the town centre. Something like 0.75 spaces per flat. Indeed, the Parkway residential units don't have a space each, far from it.

It's all done to try and get people to give up their cars, when in reality all it does as per your example, is cause people to still use their cars but just park them irresponsibly.

Presumably Travel Lodge will have some arrangement with Park Way with preferred rates for parking.

According to their website it'll be open for business on 6th June. There will be parking on site but it will be chargeable.
linky thing

Well hopefully the guests will wise up to the fact that they'll be able to park for £1 (or for free if there's space in the on-street bay) in Pelican Lane once they've dropped off their luggage.....

It seems to be open already, some interesting parking means tonight they have been able to shoehorn in 12+ cars on the site.

Town centre Travelodges either have no parking of their own, charge an extortionate rate or advise guests to use local, pay parking.

When all you want is a cheap overnight have found they are very good. Parking isn't too much of an issue in a town centre; where traditional hotel car parks are often very tight and cramped. Provides a little extra revenue to the local council as well.

Isn't that Tom Jones?
I saw some of the females attending the Rod Stewart concert and I certainly wouldn't want them throwing their knickers at me!
