QUOTE (dannyboy @ Nov 25 2012, 11:42 AM) A good display ~ a simple tree above every shop & string of lights in each one. I haven't seen Hungerford's display this year (as I pointed out); however, the previous years I was impressed with what they did. Besides, even if it was crap it was better than Newbury's. Which wouldn't be that hard.

QUOTE (CBW137Y @ Nov 24 2012, 08:02 PM) Every year there are the same complaints about Christmas lights in many towns, not just Newbury. Given what I've just seen here (see link), I guess Newbury folk should be thankful for what they have got! Tee hee. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-20471162And if we had the most elaborate, brightly lit display in the country, there would be those that complained about the cost to public finances. I would imagine if a survey were done on a national scale, the vast majority of people would slag off their own town.

Edit:- Cos I have an excuse to wear the hat? Christmas is great. I get like 3 days off work and in addition I will hopefully get some presents I actually like. I don't have to cook for one day and it's a reason to get together with the family and have them make comments here and there about whatever they feel is gossip in my personal life. On second thoughts.... Christmas is crap. Still an excuse to go to London at night init.

QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ Nov 27 2012, 10:40 AM) Give me the Summer. Where people go on holidays they can't afford, sit round pools with people they normally wouldn't give the time of day too & eat & drink to excess.......
