QUOTE (Sherlock @ Apr 25 2012, 07:02 PM) I can barely pick up Vodafone here. We're a mile from Newbury town centre and the signal is incredibly weak and often (like now) drops out altogether. Absolutely hopeless. I refuse to pay £50 for one of their 'if you can't get a signal, buy our £50 box' boxes as I'd rather hoped that the vast amount of money I give them would get me coverage a mile from the centre of the home of Vodafone.
Anyone else having problems? No, ever

QUOTE (GMR @ Apr 25 2012, 08:07 PM) That is interesting: I didn't know you could buy signal boxes if you are in a weak signal area. I have Orange and where I live it has a weak signal. Do you know if Orange do the same? I think the orange equivalent to the Vodafone Sure Signal is Orange Signal Boost. For details google Orange Signal Boost. I'd put a link up but Admin would probably come and kick my f**kin' 'ed in for posting commercial links!

QUOTE (JeffG @ Apr 25 2012, 08:12 PM) I live a fair bit closer, in the St Barts area, and quite often lose signal when indoors. There also seem to be dead spots where the Bluetooth connection to my car always drops out - specifically in Buckingham Road near Luker and in Andover road approaching St Johns by the crossing outside where the hospital was. Which will not be related to the carrier. Bluetooth is a short distance wireless connection and the drop out is likely caused by interference from other devices on the same frequency.

Do you know if Orange do the same? I believe the Vodafone system works via broadband - ie it uses your existing broadband to connect your phone to their network. But it costs £50 as I pointed out. A double whammy for them, of course - they save network upgrade costs and squeeze more cash out of the punters.

I'd rather hoped that the vast amount of money I give them would get me coverage a mile from the centre of the home of Vodafone Why should the geographic position of their H.Q. building dictate the coverage in any given area? There is no massive aerial on the roof so the signal gets weaker and weaker the more you get away from it. O2 have an HQ in Slough, do you think the people of Slough get a better signal than those in Newbury? If your Vodafone coverage is weak, change providers.

QUOTE (Sherlock @ Apr 26 2012, 09:24 AM) Don't you think...no, I can't be bothered, you clearly don't. I fear it is you that haven't quite grasped the idea of cellular communication. Still, carry on. Move to Uxbridge to see if Sky reception gets any better. When Vodafone move HQ to a more central European location do you think your signal will get worse, better or stay the same? Do you think the good people of Stuttgart will suddenly get better reception? Vodafone Aerial Number 1 is down behind Canal House in Hambridge Road. Apart from a few small 'others' that is the one that gets you in and out of the area. It is your distance from that which can make a difference. It is irrelevant where the HQ is.

QUOTE (dannyboy @ Apr 26 2012, 12:54 PM) which you can't actually name Well I could but that would be too easy. You give it a try and see if you can think of anything.
