it does not matter who is the baddie.

if two kids are fighting in the playground & one grabs a stick to hit the other with, you don't step in, take away the stick & let them carry on punching each other. You certainly don't take sides.

you stop them fighting & get them to resolve what it was they were fighting about in the first place.

Unfortunately, in the Middle East I think they have been fighting so long they've actually forgotten what it was about.

Not sure he has done his business any favours here. mellow.gif

On the contrary, I think he's done a huge service to restaurants everywhere.

The absence of any previous response to Terrible or Poor reviews (only 5 in 3 years) marked the owner as an easy target who wouldn't fight back. More restaurants and hotels should responded to unfair reviews and challenge what can be damaging to their businesses.

And yes, the reviewer does seem to spend time angling for freebies.

Probably on benefits and unlikely they even paid for the bike! wink.gif
Look, I'm not against cycling and cyclists and agree that it is a good thing both from a health and environmental point of view, but I think they should pay their way and they should adhere to the laws and regulations of the highway.
That's all I ask. huh.gif

How do you know what his conditions were? I suspect that the 'interrogators' are 'professionals' and don't just re-enact the type of questioning you see 'The Bill'. However, this is irrelevant, as mine isn't whether the accused behaved reasonably or not (nor do I think it is reasonable to be expected to to tell your employer you have a 'small' problem with the police and need to take a few weeks impromptu holiday), but whether the security service did. It concerns me that the police can use laws to do things that seem unreasonable or inappropriate.

A law that was drafted by the wider legal profession, passed through multiple readings in the Lords and the Commons, then received Royal Ascent as laid down under our Constitutional Monarchy.

To some, the drink-drive legislation is unreasonable or inappropriate, same with the Theft Act and pretty much every other piece of legislation on the books.

That seems unnecessarily pessimistic. I love public art and the interpretation of our cultural history, so I'm keen to see what we're getting and I think it could be great. It's also funded privately by the BID so I'm more than happy (it is funded privately, right?).

Maybe.

I do have to wonder "What's in it for the donors?" Are this signs going to be advertising in the disguise of information boards?

"David Miranda said his interrogators threatened he could go to prison if he did not co-operate ... Under schedule 7, if someone fails to co-operate they are deemed to have committed a criminal offence and could face up to three months in prison, a fine or both."

Again, if he held on to his principles and not crumbled when faced with the punishment sanctioned under law, he would have refused to disclose the information, gone to court and let a jury of his peers decide his guilt.

Maximum 3 months in prison, paroled in 6 weeks. Be lucky if he was in overnight.

Hang on. He voluntarily provided the logon and password details, unless the article author assumes they were obtained by torture until he confessed.

He could easily have stood his ground and refused to provide them, gone through the whole criminal appeals process and either won and walk free, or lose and suffer the punishment as a martyr.

Under English and Welsh law, the right to silence was removed under act of Parliament in 1994 and then with certain provisos such as the silence cannot be an assumption of guilt.

What annoys me is the lack of understanding from politicians and the media over the difference between the Internet and Google.

The Internet is not Google.
Google is not the Internet.

Street food in itself is not necessarily bad. Take a trip to Vancouver to see how it can be done well. Plenty of choice, good value and subject to licensing and inspection. The ultimate critic is the diners and if they fall below par, they go bust.

In fact some cities (Hong Kong for example, street food is more popular than sit-down restaurants in my experience. More octopus balls than I can manage.

Not normally a theatre-goer, but last night my G/f and I went to the Watermill to watch the musical version of Witches of Eastwick.

I've never actually been inside the stage area so was a little surprised at the size of the stage area. But for me it made the whole show much more intimate. Sat up in the Circle I have a prefect view of the stage and as the seating is in tiers, no heads in my way. Given the recent weather it was rather warm in there so stepping out during the interval was needed.

As for the show, if you have seen the 1987 film you'll have an idea on what the musical is based on. The show contains songs, dances, some female nudity (tastefully done) and extreme washboard activity. Set changes are incorporated into the performance with style. OK, the show has adult themes so is not suitable for children.

The performers and truly multi-talented. Not only do they act, but can sing and play multiple instruments. They have more talent in one finger than the entire season of BGT, or X-Factor.

If you find yourself looking for an evening out, I'd recommend popping along to Bagnor and watching it. It's running until September 14th with nightly performances and matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays.

I may have to go again smile.gif

When is a retail store not a retail store?

Apparently when it sells food.

David Allen's comments are actually quite heartening. A politician with a bit of sense.

Why would stepping out of the umbrella wash away those rights?
The UK stance is we comply in any case, so to be told we do not by others (who are often no better) sticks in the craw.

One more reason that we are better than the French, Germans. Greek etc.

It's the same size as Tesco had when they occupied the site in the 70's and 80's.

Is it because our expectaions of what a supermarket should stock have been distorted by out-of-town giants?
Is it because store don't make the best use of space?

Time will tell if they can cope with Tesco, Waitrose, Lidl and Sansbury's all within a relatively short walk.

Showing scant disregard for H&S there Councillor.. think of the motorists being distracted by your bright orange hi-vis jacket that should be used on railways, not of the roads... that might cause an accident.

Provided it meets EN471, it does not matter if yellow or orange is used on highways. Only orange is approved for use on railways. The vest in question would comply with EN471 as a class 2 garment.

Because unlike many / most local authorities they still don't send out reminder letters. Given it is the same department that issues fines that could send out the letters, it strikes me that the department has a vested interest in permits expiring as they can then nip along and ticket them. Unfortunately not every one has your "intelligence", "powers of observation", or are as "proactive".

Then I'm guessing you haven't either and have received a ticket.

Your last sentence sums up what is wrong with so much of society these days. The population require someone to think for them and tell them what to do, just before they complain about 'The Nanny State'. Whatever happened to self-reliance and personal responsibility?

Actually, no I didn't receive a letter but still renewed mine as I was proactive and checked. If I can do it, why can't others?

So 7 years later, no answer and you ask now?

Given that the permits have a date on them perhaps it was decided to save some council tax money and let owners powers of observation and their intelligence take over?
