Anyone any idea what has happened on the A339 between the Sainsbury's and Robin Hood roundabouts? Apparently the road has been closed and there is rather a lot of blood everywhere. Could it be another person has tried to cross this busy road and has lost an argument with a car?

I drove by this aswell, did not look nice at all! I was thinking it was a car accident but considering there was no crushed up car, i believe you maybe right about someone walking in front of a big Lorry! I'm sure NWN will find this out for us.

Slightly worse being hit by a lorry than a car !!! I don't understand why people cross there and do risk their life when there is and underpass at the top and one at the bottom surely better to add 5 minutes onto your journey time than to lose the rest of your living days... Unless it was a deliberate act.. sad.gif

Hmm i find it hard to believe because of the location and time. But it was a lorry and that's probably what i would use if i wanted to end it. We will have to wait and see... let's just hope it's not someone we know personally!

And there is the footpath next to the canal so that's three place to cross.

Rather too much speculation on here for what is a very serious incident. Please wait for the NEWS on this subject rather than rely on rumour, chinese whispers and rubbish guesswork. It's a local person involved.

Perfectly put - no one knows for sure what happened, who to and why - but we do know that someone was at the very least, very badly injured - and they will have family and friends. So show some respect.

The whole section is regularly crossed on foot. The Robin Hood end is particularly bad and I've even seen people running across with pushchairs.

Perhaps it's time to put barriers along the divider like on the Sainsbury's - Greenham roundabout section?

You still get people crossing the road and climbing over the barrier.

This was someone with a serious and long term medical condition who was walking alongside the road and had an attack, collapsed, and fell into the road. If she had collapsed and fallen to the left instead the the right she might have survived this terrible medical incident.

She was NOT trying to cross the road, she did NOT try throwing herself in front of the vehicle and there was no reason for her to be using the underpass if she was (for instance) walking from where she lived toward Sainsburys (if that is where she was headed).

Calls for guardrails are premature. Assumptions made are false.

I feel for the lorry driver who cannot be blamed for this incident and my thoughts are with the family and friends of this poor victim.

RIP

I apologise if I caused offence earlier with my speculation - but that is how we live our life. Take the Derrick Bird case there has been no end of speculation in that one and that was front page news.

Regardless of how and why this tragedy occurred my thoughts are obviously with the family and also with the lorry driver.

I did not say I did not know why the lady was trying to cross the road there I said I did not know why "people" try and cross the road there I have seen numerous people doing it.

Rather shockingly on my way home from work tonight during rush hour traffic two youths ran across the A339 at Station Road, jumped over the barrier and across the next two lanes of traffic to come out by Halfords and the underpass there is not even 100 yards away...... It frightens me that people have so little regard for not only their own safety but that of the people driving vehicles also.

Spartacus' description of the incident is correct. She was on her way to work, at Sainsbury's, when she had an epileptic fit.

My sincerest condolences to her family, friends and work colleagues.
