Newbury Today Forum _ Newbury News _ ...is there any point?

Posted by: Mr Brown Apr 10 2020, 02:26 PM

Quite surprised this forum is still going. A couple of colleagues, having become bored witless over recent weeks, thought they might break the monotony by signing up. Nothing doing apparently and it's been years since a new member actually joined. Presumably the now drastically reduced NWN staff have either forgotten the forum or don't have the technical knowledge to switch it off. Perhaps forums have had their day and other formats better suit, but if exploited properly, forums could be of some value right now. Could it be that if it resided behind a NWN paywall a renascence of sorts could be expected?

Sorry old chap but I do not have any idea of what you are talking about. Far as I am concerned it matters not if there are 2 or 200 hundred members as it is just a way of shouting at the world without buying a stamp. Remember those halcyon days when the Manchester Grauniad's "letters to the editor" page was festooned with as many points of view as there where topics? The last thing we need is this little part of the web to be controlled by someone other than the contributors.

The bigger question is will the paper survive this?

Well, that at least provides an answer.

Even if it doesn't we can all find another way of being obnoxious to each other on line for having different views and political opinions..😂

Oh well, exactly as I thought. So it really is a lock in at the pub with no beer! Still, if it keeps you old gents happy all well and good. Don't worry about locking up when you leave, door locks on its own.
