Newbury Today Forum _ Random Rants _ A jolly good read.

In a desperate last ditch effort to raise the level of useful debate on this forum can I put forward Cormack McCarthy's latest book "The Road" as "A jolly good read" I'm an avid fan of his works and found his offering to be dark, somber, frightening and yet ultimately hopeful. Terrific stuff, read it and see if you agree. smile.gif

Good smile.gif if you enjoy it try "Outer Dark". The Border trilogy is stunning as well. Enjoy.

I’ve read All the Pretty Horses. But you do know The Road was written 10 years ago?

Canterbury Tales was first published nearly 550 years ago but that did not stop sadistic English teachers subjecting their hapless charges to it's less than obvious delights. A good book is a good book.

Do they still allow the Miller's Tale in todays PC world? Surely all that swiving going on is not acceptable?

You need to read the other two as well. The Road was indeed written in 2006. But, still new to me.
