Does anyone proof read the NWN any more? I have just read a death announcement for a friend and there are 2 glaring mistakes in there. Not very good NWN.

Distressing yes, but one assumes they print what they are presented with and would have no reason to question it. Was the announcement from the undertaker, in which case they may be at fault, or direct from the deceased's family?

I don't know who it came from. Surely someone must check it before it is printed. I worked for 2 scottish newspapers a long time ago and we spent hours proof reading the paper before it was printed.

The undertaker puts together the death notice and it's is proof read by the direct relatives b4 being approved. I should know. I went through the whole process in Feb with my Mum.😢

It's been like that at the NWN as long as I can remember.
They got my Mum's obituary wrong and my wedding coverage.

Did they use the copy provided and did that have mistakes or have they just done completely their own thing?

Surprised you're asking that question!
Of course the copy provided was accurate. It was the NWN that f****d it up!

I have heard a lot of people complain that they have submitted copy and it's been incorrect, but they expected a phone call or someone to have contacted them to check. I have also met people on the other side who have called to check things and been told that "of course it's correct" and they have regretted spending time on it.

I proof read a notice submitted to NWN for my mother.

She went by the name of Michal (which is a feminine spelling); NWN took it upon themselves to "correct" this to Michael, which provides an interesting family tree!

NWN were not in the least bit interested when I complained

No doubt blindly allowing spell checker to rule!

Exactly - if they had a reaonable level of journalism rather than recycling press releases I would have continued to by the paper. However they just seem to join the club with WBC and the racecourse and do nothing to investigate any wrongdoing with their chums.

I worked with Kennet Radio a bit at the local elections recently, and their coverage was faster, more in depth and easier to access than the content produced by the NWN. And free to access as well.
