It is suggested that another attempt should be made to make a Newbury Coat.
http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/News/Article...articleID=13731I hope the Spinners and Weavers realise that the original bet was to take the wool from the sheep after dawn and a coat made from it which was to be worn at dinner that evening. The original attempt started with the shearing at 5am and concluded when Sir John Throckmorton, wearing the coat, sat down to dinner at 8pm. 15 hours - not the 24 hours stated in the linked NWN article - and not over two working days as in the last 'recreation' at the Newbury Show in 1991.
http://www.berkshirehistory.com/articles/newburycoat.htmlI trust they will also recreate the rest of the fesitivities by roasting the sheep and providing locally brewed beer for all.
PS I can't actually see how this has anything to do with the Olympics???
