Anybody know what was going on that made so much noise on Saturday? It was like being in Iraq, loads and loads of explosions were heard all over the area but no-one seems able to shed any light on what made them.

I think something was happening along the lines of Guy Fawkes; somebody tried to blow up Newbury and failed. laugh.gif

I heard it where I live and some people heard it in Thatcham.

Sat night was a private event at the racecourse... Fireworks people and it was amazing! It was just like that event that gets put on there once every year. I tried looking on the internet for what the event was about, couldn't find anything, until a friend told me that it was a private party.

I live very near the racecourse and they were so loud that I had to turn my TV up. I went outside and loads of dogs were barking and other people were investigating it too. We had no warning of this and were definitely the loudest and longest and latest I've known there. angry.gif

Do you normally get a warning if someone has a party?

If its a private party, it depends... up to them if they want too. But if its a major event then we should know about it. I will inform my friend that they should of warned us all. I have to say there was alot of people there after the event, lots of cheering can be heard in the distance.

We moved to Kintbury over the weekend and on Saturday night I could hear fireworks going off as well huh.gif

Could the sound have travelled that far? laugh.gif

Probably the low-frequency sounds (explosions) would, in the same way that in Newbury you can hear the guns on Salisbury Plain when they are having an exercise if the conditions are right.

To be honest AmieB no they dont, but this was exceptionally loud and common courtesy might have meant the Racecourse sending neighbours a warning.

However having since read on here that the fireworks could be heard in Kintbury that might have meant a heck of a lot of letters.

Some idiots have ruined The Lion in West Street by moving next door to it and then complaining about the noise at weekends. (Duh!) angry.gif They cant have discos anymore and have to keep windows and doors shut regardless of the weather, the noise levels were nowhere near Saturday nights.
