Town Centre people!!!

Is that "Tut, tut, you people who want shops in the town centre!!" or "People, we need shops to be in the town centre."

(I shall probably be told off by Iommi for not being sure which way to read that smile.gif)

A Tesco worker told me that M & S were going to the Retail Park, but into Borders old place.

laugh.gif Thought I was being thick and so did not ask? laugh.gif

So millions of pounds are being spent on Parkway and M&S are putting a store in the old Border shop at the retail park?? How odd...... unsure.gif

Parkway is a joke, it has been from start to finish. Only Debenhams (that I know of) have signed up for it. Waste of money - but apparantly it's what Newbury needed..... dry.gif

From what I have heard so far, Primark are taking over what is Debenhams in the Kennet centre (not confirmed officially), Matalan is going into what was JJB Sports and Marks and Spencer were planning on taking over what was Borders, but needed to change the retail usage code as they wanted to sell a range of food. Also apparently H&M are going into the new Parkway.

Excellent News. I don't want a Primark in Newbury.... I don't like their clothes. But I am pleased Matalan's is coming.

There is plenty of room for both.

Like it or hate it you can't beat Primark for kids clothes and even my 18 year old will go all the way to Reading just to get some things from there rather than go to any of the places in Newbury like TKMax or Peacocks. Personally I like the TU clothes in Sainsbury's but Primark is good also and cheaper than Matalan.

I hope we do get a Primark, still, as we need one. The prices are very good.

A question (and I don't know the answer to this).

Where is all this cheap clothing made and by who, and how much are they paid.

Does anyone care?

Good point, one man's cheap is another's slave-like wage.

To be honest; no. That is down to the government to deal with. Beyond that the peasants want their cheap goods. If you confront them with the appalling atrocities that helped get such cheap goods they'll say "Oh, my god!... that is terrible... those poor darling..." and then being thinking "I wonder what cheap bargains I can get from that shop." That is life Jim, but not as the moralist know it.

So we can wash our 'conscience' hands of the affair?

Exactly, but this isn't the preserve of just the cheap shops.

Big business has little conscience.

Balderdash !!! Do you know where any of your clothes are made whether from Next, M&S or Primark. I can’t afford £100 for a pair of jeans I have kids to feed. In fact do I recall M&S being named and shamed over using workers in India and paying peanuts?? Where do we stop? What about the tea that you drink do you know how much the people who pick that are paid? Do you care? tongue.gif
