Hi everyone.

Just thought I'd remind everyone that the payment method in the Corn Exchange car park (formerly Bear Lane) will change from Pay on Foot to Pay & Display on the 7th May 2013. This will require customers to buy parking time before leaving their vehicle in the car park.

The new pay & display machines will be located next to the existing paystation (which will be inactive)

It is ONLY the Corn Exchange car park that is changing, the Library and KFC car parks are unaffected will remain Pay on Foot.

Please click here for more information, contact the parking service on 01635 519 213 or email to parking@westberks.gov.uk.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe it has something to do with works being carried out in the museum, and the need for scaffolding that will take up the exit lane.

This is a backward step. Let's hope it's only temporary.

Looks like this is the reason.

Anyone aware of the selected design for the link building?

£2.2m?

Waste of money.

What's your criteria for stating it is a waste of money?

Just like my reasons for not ever wanting to meet a T-Rex, it should be obvious.
No-one goes there. No-one will ever really go there. They should spend the £2.2m improving the roads or developing new exciting areas and things for young people to do, or keeping the cash for a rainy day.

The Lottery hasn't given the cash to improve roads or whatever - just for rebuilding the museum. Most of the money WBC is contributing would be needed anyway to carry out repairs to the historic buildings it has neglected for a few decades.

2:15am, really? laugh.gif
My point is it's a waste of money and the £2.2m won't bring ROI.

Really?, no-one?

What's obvious is that your point of no-one going or will go there is based on not one fact.

The museum is a very important part of the town and district heritage. It provides invaluable educational, recreational and historic facilities, which sadly, some think is a waste of time.
I regularly went when it was open, and will continue to do so when it re-opens. I have grandchildren, who when they visit, get taken there and they always enjoy
themselves. It's good to show others that there is more to life than cars, computers, video games and mobile phones!

That's the way it started, yes, but most threads meander.

Yeah but there's not really is there. laugh.gif

The fact is that a minority of people go and it does not really provide any value to the town. Unfortunately quaint history will not fund the town in the years to come.....

While we're at it, we could demolish Donnington Castle and use the land for something useful.

One day, you'll post something sensible. Perhaps.

That would be a wise move.

We are from different generations. Just because you don't deem it sensible does not mean your ideas automatically are. The fact is that it does not provide much value to the town and in terms of supporting the town in the future it serves little purpose.

All it is does is hark back to ye olde days.
