I'm just sitting back and drinking it all in as the whole lot spirals out of control and ends up burning up in the sun. Now red Len has threatened to lose the next election for labour....son, they don't need your help, honestly.

Imho, what the country needs next time is an electoral pact to deliver PR. We shouldn’t have to put an with another extreme government (left or right).

They can't help themselves, poor misunderstood loves,

"Poplar MP Apsana Begum named in Labour party anti-Semitism scandal as Jeremy Corbyn is suspended".

Is the same MP as,

"Labour MP Apsana Begum charged with housing fraud"

Bless.

Hold on though, is the red faced right wing Brexit supporting MP that is accused of rape? It’s pointless getting into these sort of point scoring exercises. Both parties have bad eggs.

I’m in Kendal atm. This morning in 1/2 hour I saw one chap come out of a shop, take his mask off and proceed to start coughing. Another chap coughing as walking along and a third man spit phlegm. I’ve not witnessed anything like that in Newbury since this started.

Because of course the NHS has such a stellar record of success with anything IT.

It isn't just IT though. The private sector can't get the tests carried out. The errors being made are schoolboy errors. Not expecting high demand when schools and universities return?? Come on, it's been a cluster ****. And before you say anything, I would sincerely much sooner be heaping praise.

One can debate till the cows come home the pros and cons of present government strategy but anyone want to argue with the Lancet?

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/a...1201-0/fulltext

Maybe it's time we started taking this a little more seriously?

If the government could get track and trace working we'd be a lot further along. The WHO have been shouting from day 1 that this is the key. Instead of awarding contracts to their mates, they should have given the money to the NHS and local authorities.

Complete agreement, (collectors item), but I am coming from the other direction. This is literally making a mountain out of a molehill.
No one is arguing that the virus is not a nasty little fellow to have round to tea but it could have been handled so much better at a fraction of the price.
It should cost the Tory's the next election but are the others any brighter?

Ok. So explain to me why the most libertarian government we’ve ever seen and whose core voters believe Covid is a hoax would over react? I just don’t see a motive.

I saw something the other day regarding a resurgence of stockpiling, though not sure if it was specific to an area. This could well be exacerbated due to a bad harvest this year which in turn will push the price of wheat up. If there is a run on flour by the "new cooks" that seem to be flourishing we may be in for a dodgy time, but it would only be short term.
Return of the Corn Laws anyone? tongue.gif tongue.gif

Tell you what, if a no deal Brexit looks likely, I will stockpile a few bits. Probably only of limited use as the main shortages food wise will be fresh goods, but I'll make sure we've got pasta and rice in abundance well before December if there's no deal by mid October.

Or one could equally argue that the infection rate would have been the same had we done nothing. Without a viable control model we are reliant on a speculative assessment. Any virus is completely unpredictable in it's "life cycle" owing to it's ability to mutate at whim, which is one of the reasons it is so difficult to produce a viable vaccine. The important figure is the fatality rate per 100 infected cases and that is below 1%. Highly distressing for those involved but is it really worth the hysteria when placed alongside other terminal conditions? I agree social distancing is beneficial, but surely it doesn't take a master's degree to work that one out?
Smoking kills, yet they still sell cigarettes, even though their use is a personal choice, so why haven't they banned them completely, or at least legislated against their use in public?

Hard to argue with some of your points but it's hard to think it wasn't the total lockdown that all but eradicated infections.

You say social distancing is obvious, but it isn't to most. Especially when drinking. We had a spike after VE Day in some areas. Around 50% of people I pass make to effort to keep 2 metres. If they aren't told what to do, they're too stupid to do the right thing.

On a slightly different subject. I had a chuckle on Facebook the other day when somebody blamed the "educated middle class" for panic buying.

This article has some interesting facts for those who think the end is nigh.

https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/05/how-...19-coronavirus/

For those who can't read, the global deaths form corona virus are on a par with suicide, yet very little is done to prevent such tragedies.

Covid 19 is being kept in check by social distancing measures. Cases were doubling every 2/3 days in March. Think what the cases and deaths would be without those measures.

"What should I do if I get a notification saying that I’ve been in ‘close contact’ with someone who has coronavirus (COVID-19), but I do not believe I have?
The app will send you a notification if it calculates that you have been in ‘close contact’ with someone who then tests positive for coronavirus. The alert will not identify the individual in any way. A scientific calculation, using an “algorithm”, has been developed by NHS doctors and scientists to work out which app users are ‘close contacts’.

‘Close contact’ generally means you have been within 2 metres of someone for 15 minutes or more. Read more about how the risk scoring algorithm works.

If you have questions about how the advice applies to you, or are struggling with self-isolation, please call 111."

We're expected to trust a government algorithm? laugh.gif

Good move. I started road biking a few months ago. I like cycling but never really felt safe on the roads so I used the lockdown to build my confidence. I got up to 35 miles before my SCA but am back up to 25 now. I live in the Enborne end so tend to head out towards Hungerford & Lambourne & back. I absolutely love it on a Sunday morning when there's really hardly any traffic.

I'm not too bothered either way if it goes. I'm guessing the propaganda foreign stations would continue. Don't forget those that attack the BBC for so called left bias also attack C4 & Sky News. They'll never be happy other than a Fox type affair.

Valid point and I thank you for bringing it to my attention, though my original source did site the reason being a "pc sensitive issue in the present climate", but owing to the furore generated by the decision I am inclined to view it now as a "face saving" exercise as, in this digital age, it is quite straight forward adding a virtual choir.
There again I could be completely biased and welcome any opportunity to close this wretched organisation once and for all.

I reckon the BBC does ok. It is accused of bias by both sides which I reckon means it's getting it right on the whole.

Just when you think the 'silly season' has run it's course, some barmpot decides this would be a good idea.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53888209

Not sure who is worse, the loony left for pushing this crazy agenda or the vast majority for allowing it. angry.gif angry.gif angry.gif

You're being played SirWilliam.

"Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, there will be no live audience at the concert, and fewer musicians and singers who will be socially distanced.

Many of the songs played on the Last Night are traditional British songs, like the national anthem and 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

However, some people think that some of the songs including 'Rule, Britannia!' and 'Land Of Hope And Glory' should not be played any more, because of their words and links to the British Empire and the days of colonialism and slavery.

The BBC said that this year the songs will be played by the orchestra but without singing the words because of coronavirus restrictions, but that they would return with words when coronavirus restrictions end.

A BBC spokesperson said: "For the avoidance of any doubt, these songs will be sung next year. We obviously share the disappointment of everyone that the Proms will have to be different but believe this is the best solution in the circumstances and look forward to their traditional return next year.""

Nothing that couldn't be fixed by me taking more care of myself. Sometimes we forget we are 50 something and still think of us as young men... I'm not overweight but did hit the bottle a bit after my Mum passed last year...nothing serious but was using it to sleep.

Slippery slope though isn’t it? Alcohol. I’ve not had a drink for over 8 years. Smoking’s the other thing that’s nasty.
