His assumed intention was to spread fear and terror in the name of his own particular warped brand of religion... (said quietly... we don't want to make assumptions here about this being to do with the Religion of Peace)

If he wiped out fellow Muslims while committing his act they would understand... 'InShaAllah' n all that...

So the intention of the IRA was to spread fear and terror in the name of Catholicism?

If you have a wasp nest in the shed and some of them sting you? Do you really try and identify the ones that will sting you next? Really?

Female "stinging" wasps are capable and will sting and a swarm of those wasps are collectively a real danger, but there is more than one way of making sure they don't harm you and there is more than one way of making sure a wasp nest does not develop in the wrong place in the first place. Meanwhile, wasps are a benefit to mankind, and wiping them all out could cause more harm than good. Developing a system where we can co-exist seems like the most sensible strategy to me.

http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/bugs/wasp/

"Despite the fear they sometimes evoke, wasps are extremely beneficial to humans. Nearly every pest insect on Earth is preyed upon by a wasp species, either for food or as a host for its parasitic larvae. Wasps are so adept at controlling pest populations that the agriculture industry now regularly deploys them to protect crops."

Do you know more people die in a terrorist event that being stung by a wasp in the UK. Genocide seems like a bit of an overreaction to me.

What a strange and bizarre point of view, "more people are killed by diesel fumes that by terrorist attack"
unsure.gif
There are many, many things that kill more people than a terrorist attack.
The clue is in the word............"terror" that sets it apart!

Exactly the point I'm making: hysterical right wingers lacking rational thinking and lacking a sense of proportion.

As opposed to complacent left wingers, tell you what, why don't we, next time we spot a terrorist, call you up and YOU can go round, sing a verse or two of Kumbaya sit down and offer him a cupcake, give him some flowers and he'll soon see sense. The nation will be grateful, you'll have a lovely funeral. Or the bits that they find will do. Make yer family proud, make a difference. Go on, try it. Maybe then we won't need to see another police hero being laid to rest.

The next time you spot a terrorist? My best advice is you call the police.

It's a light oil, same as diesel.

Correct.
Road diesel is 32sec kerosene.
Central heating oil is 28 sec kerosene so a bit lighter.
You can actually run diesel engines on central heating oil but obviously illegally to use on the road.
Being lighter it may not be good for the injector pump etc.
Not sure what the NOX emissions are of oil central heating

I wouldn't advise using heating oil in a car it lacks the lubrication needed, would bork the high pressure lift pump and would send the injectors to the great scrappy in the sky. Maybe a good dose of sulphur would help. I have burned diesel in a paraffin heater before but it did stink the workshop out.

Just a second what are you on about? My feelings are that we have volunteers who are trained to deal with these things! I am not trained, so if I become aware of a terrorist, I will do as the advice goes, including that of GWR and alert the authorities.

OK what is your advice then? And perhaps you might like to suggest it to you mates in GWR, because that is what they ask me to do!

People aren't sitting around waiting, that's why far more people in the U.K. are killed by diesel engine pollution than a terrorist attack.

Thankfully many people recognise this and act accordingly, rather than respond to right-wing hysteria.

Was your Mum frightened by a vw when she was carrying you perchance??

Why? Or is this ad hominem because you simply run out of rational arguments?

I'm simply trying to put risk into perspective using a common application.

No, not at all, but it does seem to be a recurring theme in most of your esteemed posts and I was curious as to why, no harm meant or intended. smile.gif

I don't think I have any "mates in GWR" who are at the level of those who decide the on board announcements!
I believe these are decided in collaboration with BTP.
The advice is not what to do if you "spot a terrorist". It is how to report any suspicious items or activity.

Is it just me or does everyone else find her somehow incredibly annoying and slightly disturbing?
