I simply use Firefox with the Adblock Plus add-on. I haven't seen an advert onscreen for years.

I also use Firefox with an add-on called Ghostery, blocks all sort of rubbish.

Did you also realise that it's more expensive to park for an hour or less on a Sunday than it is any other day?

£2.00 flat charge on Sunday compared to £1.50 for up to an hour any other day!

Daylight robbery!

Sod's law seems to dictate that my shopping always takes just over the hour rather than just under it!

We were told that somebody had cut through a cable on the Andover Road.

Must have been a b*****y big cable!

Good jouney into work today for anyone living on the South Side of Newbury using the Andover Road.....

As a pedestrian I got to work quicker than the poor car drivers... blink.gif

Indeed, took me the usual 5 mins to get within spitting distance of work, then another 5 to get 200 metres!

What was the problem? Can't have been the hay on the A43 as that was south bound.

How many schools would this money have paid for?

Basing that question upon how much it's costing to rebuild St Barts, about a quarter of a school, maybe a third if lucky!

When you say 'request' does that mean they still will collect even if you have not got such monies? My mother who is a pensioner has some items she wants to donate to a charity.

The website does underline 'voluntary' so I would assume they will still collect if you don't make one.

Also, as other posters have put, the BHF have a man with a van who will come and fetch stuff. Great service, I donated half of my attic to them! :-) All good clean and useable stuff I hasten to add! The other half of the attic was junk which I took to the dump.

In the story posted on Newbury Today it says: "..."a very distinctive" blue R registration VW van was seen parked in the woods nearby..."

If this was the van used to dump the sofa, I don't understand why the driver did not drive it to the tip - it makes no sense.

Alternatively, they could have listed it for free in the NWN classifieds section and made some money, or called The Furniture Project and asked them to collect it.

The CFP (Community Furniture Project) request a 'voluntary' donation of £15 to cover the cost of collecting furniture. Luckily, I managed to sell my piece of furniture for £20 just as I was about to donate it!

Thanks Simon. I see you have an allotment. You’d get on well with my dad , when he retired he turned one of his fields into six plots for himself and a few locals. Bet he couldn’t have built that shed though. Well done.

Sandy77 - I used to live in Malvern before I lived here so welcome!

Simon - I have done a few bike rides with your better half (so I believe)!

Any more new members I have stuff in common with? smile.gif

Good lord. Why all the negativity folks?

If this is an honest post (OP), then fair play to the student for actually wanting to do something with his/her time to expand an interest, and make a few £ for his/herself at the same time. People are moaning about this person wanting to charge money doing something useful. I don't get it. The same people would also be moaning if this person was out setting fires to bins, drinking in the graveyard during the day, stealing from little old ladies, stealing from you, adding extra graffiti to Newbury. The list goes on. huh.gif

If this is a genuine thread, then fair play! Yes, some of the more tech savvy users may well know exactly how to convert VHS to DVD with one swift flick of the wrist, but there are others who don't and won't know where to look to find out.

I'd ask the OP to tell us some more about his/herself.

**grumble over**

wink.gif

Pretty much my point so hear hear!

I think the OP is just an enterprising young person trying to earn some extra cash. The service he/she is offering is one that I'm sure many people would use, especially some more mature folk who cannot grasp modern technology!

Security is however, an issue, some references from an ex tutor or likewise would be wise.

wrt to data loss, tapes are actually quite hard to destroy completely and a few seconds of lost footage is surely a risk worth taking to have your precious memories watchable and copyable ( unsure.gif )?

wrt to whether this is a suitable post for this forum, I suggested to admin a while ago that we have another category for general/miscellaneous posts such as items for sale, requests for information etc. etc. and they said they had had the same thought and were considering it.

So come on admin - let's have that extra category please?

Just my 2 pennorth wink.gif

Giving the town a bad image eh?

Walking into town the other day from St Johns...weaved my way through the latest road-digging, then through the half-empty Kennet Centre and over the bridge into half-empty Northbrook Street, to be confronted by 6 chuggers, and past Millets where the police were apprehending a shoplifter, then past the spitting chavs at McDs, through the plumes of smokers outside two pubs, before getting to my appointment.

The only street-drinking I've spotted recently is from a notorious drunk who I know has a town centre ASBO, but his bright coloured trousers actually brightened up an increasingly shabby, run-out-of-steam town.

Do you always wear Rose coloured glasses? laugh.gif laugh.gif rolleyes.gif

I agree with the general consensus. Being the Super Head of two secondary schools is a tough and very responsible job. If he is being successful at that job then I think he deserves the pay.

I think it's a bad idea. It would spoil the fun, we would all have to 're-create' ourselves afterwards and I don't think it would take long for any of us to match our new identities with our old ones!

Personally, I feel that people on this forum have formed opinions about other members which may not hold upon actually meeting that person. I'm not putting this very well. What I mean is that I like to think I'm basically a nice person. I try not to upset anyone and feel very upset myself if I have upset anyone! I would not like to meet a forum member who 'doesn't like me'! sad.gif

The only reason I would go is to see if TDH really is! laugh.gif
