I drove through Thatcham this evening and was rather disappointed by the new Christmas lights. LED Christmas trees at random heights on lamp posts along the A4. Solar powered and therefore green they maybe but also very easily missed.

I think Thatcham Town Council should be applauded for trying something different, and if there is anything to improve on, I'm sure it will be one in time for next years festivities. I personally think the switch on event and lights were very good, although there could have been a few more in the Broadway. Well done all.

Sorry Richard but I could not disagree more.
The lights in the broadway were sparse in the extreme and the solar powered christmas trees did not switch on at the same time. I don't know when they came on but they were working the following evening, if by "working" you mean that feeble flickering.
In my book the whole lighting saga scored about one out of ten.

I agree. In times of austerity any effort must be applauded. There are so many cut back that we should welcome anything.

Absolutely, totally agree, one light between two, that should be the rule. When I was a girl we had to make do with glow worm in a jam jar. Luvley it were.

I can understand that. But since then electricity was invented. That is why we can now have such wonderful events above our heads at Christmas.

No doubt by a Lib-Dem?

Actually, the phenomenon was not 'invented' as it existed already in a number of natural forms. The means of useable and controlled production was 'invented'.

I think the best uses for electricity include the electric chair and the use of cattle prods to encourage the guilty to confess.

I'm no great lover of the Blackpool illumination efforts that some Council's attempt at Christmas lights, but Thatcham's tiny twinkles are frankly an embarrassment.

I live in Thatcham and they are crap.
A few years ago it was much more impressive. They are literally a few twinkly lights and a snowman. Frankly our christmas lights in our house here are much better

Thank you motormad and spartacus dry.gif

Eco friendly the Thatcham lights may be but hardly something to be proud of.
