As we all know, on Wednesday next week Sainsbury's will close to allow the extension work to be completed.

This morning, through my letter box arrived a letter explaining this. Attached to the bottom was a £5 off voucher. Goodie I thought. Will use this when it reopens. Shame its only for use in another store, valid from the day after closing to the day before reopening. It's also not valid for use in petrol stations.

Nearest other store:

Tadley. 8.5 miles
Calcot. 11.5 miles

Given that petrol is £1.04 a litre, the saving will be wiped out by the extra cost. Add to that the cost of printing and postage, hardly worth sending out.

Yes I thought that was a bit weird when I received mine.

Are they hoping to avoid loosing customers during the shut-down never to come back?

If so they will have to come up with a better offer than that to entice me to Savacentre!

I got mine as well and can you be used when they are closed. You'd have thought they'd allow us to use it either before or afterwards. It seems a bit of a con.

Reminds me of a joke.

Man enters shop and asks the price of oranges.

"50 pence each" says the shopkeeper.

"Thats expensive" says the man "Down the road they are only 30 pence."

"So go down the road and buy them" retorts shopkeeper

"I would but they have not got any this week"

Shopkeeper grins "Well, when I haven't got any mine are only 10 pence"

So why don't you get together and share the transport costs - I would recomend Calcot rather than Tadley (much better selection).

Mind you - I haven't had the letter from Sainsburys sad.gif

The closure information was the most useful part of that letter. Personally, I shall go to Waitrose if I need anything I would normally get in Sainsburys during that time. I imagine most other people would just go to a different supermarket in Newbury, rather than drive all the way to Calcot.

If you didn't get a letter, perhaps you don't have/use a Nectar card.

****! I was there this morning.

However, it seems a bit daft from a business point of view, since they are obviously hoping people will still shop at Sainsbury's while the Newbury branch is closed. (Some hopes of that - especially with the big T undermining them!)

(since when was d*mn worth bleeping?? Thanks for that - it could have been any 4-letter word.)

That's what comes from using American software out of the box. The bad words list can be edited, if someone is bothered enough.

Edit: seems like someone has, since it rejects the British spelling of your word, too. smile.gif
