QUOTE (Downlander @ Nov 21 2012, 01:00 PM) That won't tempt me into Newbury. It would be an exaggeration to describe it as a half-hearted offer. I have the impression nothing would.

QUOTE (dannyboy @ Nov 25 2012, 11:51 AM) I have the impression nothing would. Therein lies the problem - he is not alone. You just have to face facts Newbury is not very popular for shopping and now the newness novelty of Parkway is dissipating and shoppers have found there is not too much to like about it the problem will only get worse!

QUOTE (dannyboy @ Nov 25 2012, 01:54 PM) Oh, and what 'facts' ? The facts that say that high street shopping is declining rapidly look at ONS website! As stated before Newbury was too late in jumping on the bandwagon Parkway was built even when they knew High Street shopping was in decline.

Great philosophy costco. The idea of actually doing something about the decline an anathema.

The idea of actually doing something about the decline an anathema. As dannyboy has quoted often on this forum it will be up to the individuals whether it survives or not "Use it or lose it" comes to mind. Newbury has always had problems with traffic flow and parking problems and not a lot can be done about it because of the bridge situations around the town. Of course it is not going to improve any time soon because of all the new development that is planned and no infrastructure planning being done whatsoever it would appear? Should the town have been left just for residence and a new town shopping complex built on the outskirts? Sandleford Park springs to mind!
