QUOTE (Claude @ Aug 23 2015, 10:01 AM) Does anyone know what it was?
I know nothing about planes but I'd like to know more about this one.
It was very thin, fairly long, had a pretty wide wing span, the wings were straight and fixed, there were no propellers (so jet powered?), it wasn't going all that quickly, it was definitely not a passenger jet. I did wonder if it was some kind of drone but it looked far to big. It was also pretty noisy.
No idea where to start looking to find out what it could have been. Any suggestions? See Vulcan post here; was this what you saw?.

QUOTE (Blake @ Aug 23 2015, 11:00 AM) I was doing a barbeque at that time. What I saw was about six motorised gliders flying in a south easterly direction. One was flying low and sounded jet powered. I Googled it and found there are indeed jet gliders. They may have been flying to Lasham, a major center for glider aviation. Thanks Blake, that sounds exactly like what it was. I only saw one, not 6, but I appreciate you taking the time all the same. QUOTE (gel @ Aug 24 2015, 12:33 PM) See Vulcan post here; was this what you saw?. Errrrm, very little in my description matches what a Vulcan looks/sounds like, and the date/time of the sighting doesn't match either, but thanks for the contribution.

Great shout, it did look very similar, but without wing-mounted engines. Other than that, it could have been identical.

QUOTE (Nothing Much @ Sep 3 2015, 01:20 PM) U2s still operate from Sculthorpe .Norfolk. ce
PS I didn't say that.... They used to operate out of Alconbury, along with the Warthogs. Great days.
