Does anyone know what it was?

I know nothing about planes but I'd like to know more about this one.

It was very thin, fairly long, had a pretty wide wing span, the wings were straight and fixed, there were no propellers (so jet powered?), it wasn't going all that quickly, it was definitely not a passenger jet. I did wonder if it was some kind of drone but it looked far to big. It was also pretty noisy.

No idea where to start looking to find out what it could have been. Any suggestions?

I was doing a barbeque at that time. What I saw was about six motorised gliders flying in a south easterly direction. One was flying low and sounded jet powered. I Googled it and found there are indeed jet gliders. They may have been flying to Lasham, a major center for glider aviation.

They were all flying very slowly. The others sounded propeller driven.

Thanks Blake, that sounds exactly like what it was. I only saw one, not 6, but I appreciate you taking the time all the same.

Errrrm, very little in my description matches what a Vulcan looks/sounds like, and the date/time of the sighting doesn't match either, but thanks for the contribution.

Forgive my ignorance but what you described actually sounds like a U2 Dragon Lady. But what one would be doing flying over this burgh is anyone's guess.

Great shout, it did look very similar, but without wing-mounted engines. Other than that, it could have been identical.

You can never tell what is going on up there. 15 years or so ago, before I could find the battery for my video camera.
A B1 circled my garden in Norfolk. Shock and Awe. It had flown over from US, done a flight over Duxford and was then heading for tea&crumpets at RAF Marham. It was massive .

They used to operate out of Alconbury, along with the Warthogs. Great days.

You're right, they did, along with (for a while) the f16. I believe It's been closed now which is sad, I remember watching Hunt for Red October at the Spartan, and I thought English football supporters were partisan!
